Is Windows installed on this all-in-one?
No. It comes without an operating system (FreeDOS) and without any preinstalled software: the Windows licence and its installation must be planned for before putting it into service, budget included. The hardware itself is complete and ready to start, keyboard and mouse included.
How many memory slots are free, and what is the maximum?
Two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots, with only one occupied by the 16 GB module: one therefore remains free. The ceiling is 32 GB of DDR5-5200 — worth knowing if you are aiming higher — and adding a second module enables dual-channel operation.
Can you add a second SSD or replace the original one?
There are two M.2 slots, but one is reserved for the Wi-Fi card: storage is therefore limited to a single drive, the 512 GB PCIe 4.0 SSD, which can be replaced with one of up to 1 TB. There is neither a memory card reader nor an optical drive to supplement it: extra storage will have to go through USB.
Can its screen be used as a monitor for a laptop?
Yes, that is the whole point of the HDMI 1.4 input at the back: you connect a laptop to it and the 23.8-inch screen becomes a simple monitor, picture and sound included. An HDMI 2.1 output is also present, to add a second screen to the workstation and work across two displays.
Can the USB-C port charge a phone or connect a monitor?
No: the side USB-C port, although rated at 10 Gbps, is dedicated to data transfer only — no video output, no Power Delivery to charge a device. The workstation is powered by its 90 W power adapter through a dedicated connector at the back, and an additional display is connected through the HDMI output.
Can you connect a fast external drive and peripherals at the same time?
Watch how the ports are split: only one USB-A port is fast (10 Gbps), while the other two USB-A ports are USB 2.0 and should be kept for the supplied keyboard and mouse. For a fast external drive or flash drive, use the 10 Gbps USB-A port at the back or the 10 Gbps USB-C port on the side. As no memory card reader is built in, plan for a USB adapter if you often offload SD cards.
Is the screen of this ThinkCentre neo 50a a touchscreen?
No, this model has a 23.8-inch Full HD anti-glare IPS panel, non-touch, at 250 nits and 99% of the sRGB gamut. It is certified TÜV Rheinland Flicker Free and Low Blue Light, two points that matter on a workstation used all day long.
Is it quiet enough for a reception desk or a shared office?
Yes, and it is not just a marketing impression: it carries the TÜV Rheinland Ultra Low Noise certification, which attests to very low noise emissions. A verifiable advantage for a reception counter or a shared office.
Are the keyboard and mouse supplied, and in AZERTY?
Yes: a French AZERTY Calliope USB keyboard and a Calliope USB mouse, both black, come with the machine, along with the 90 W power adapter and the quick start guide. Being wired, they need no batteries, no pairing and no USB port taken up by a receiver.
Can it be wall-mounted or fitted on a monitor arm?
No: no mounting kit is provided for this model. It comes fitted on its monitor stand and is designed to sit on a desk.
Is the wireless charging base advertised for the range included?
No: the wireless charging stand is an option in the Neo 50a range and this configuration does not have it. The supplied stand is a standard monitor stand, with no charging pad for a smartphone. So keep a phone charger on the desk, as the side USB-C port does not deliver charging current.
Can the webcam be covered, and is the audio good enough for video calls?
The 5 MP camera is disabled by an electronic shutter, which can be reactivated in one gesture when you need it. For sound, there are two array microphones and two 3 W speakers by Harman with Dolby Audio.
How much desk space does it take up, and how does it connect to the network?
540 × 192 × 431 mm for approximately 6 kg: the footprint of a 24-inch monitor, with no tower and no bundle of cables on the floor. Wired networking goes through the built-in Gigabit RJ-45 port, and wireless through Wi-Fi 6 (Intel AX201), with Bluetooth 5.2 for peripherals.
Is this ThinkCentre neo 50a new, and how long is it under warranty?
Yes: a new machine in its original packaging, delivered with its invoice, which serves as the warranty document for 2 years. All the detailed specifications of model 12SC000QFM are in the datasheet (PDF).
