The Sony Cinema Line FX3A (ILME-FX3A) camera carries over the 12.1-megapixel full-frame Exmor R sensor and BIONZ XR processor of the FX3, for internal 4K 10-bit 4:2:2 video with more than 15 stops of dynamic range and S-Cinetone colour. It shoots 4K at up to 120 frames per second, reaches an expanded sensitivity of up to ISO 409,600, and keeps the 5-axis stabilisation and the detachable handle with XLR inputs for professional sound. This evolution of the FX3 gains a rear screen with double the resolution, for more precise control on set.

Is the Sony FX3A sold with a lens?
No, it is body only, with a Sony E-mount. The lens is chosen separately — and on a full-frame sensor, it is the lens that will determine the rendering, the depth of field and a good share of the budget.
What does the full-frame sensor of the Sony FX3A bring?
An Exmor R CMOS sensor measuring 35.6 x 23.8 mm, a much larger surface than APS-C. In practice: a shallow depth of field, pronounced background blur and better low-light performance, for 12.1 effective megapixels.
Does the Sony FX3A shoot slow motion?
Yes, in 4K at up to 120 frames per second, which gives slow motion of up to 5x played back at 24p. The Slow and Quick mode lets you choose the frame rate freely, and autofocus remains active even at 120p.
What is the S-Cinetone look of the Sony FX3A?
A colour science developed for the Sony FX9, applied at the time of shooting. It gives rich colours and natural skin tones that match the other Cinema Line cameras without grading — decisive on a multi-camera shoot.
What sensitivity does the Sony FX3A reach in low light?
ISO 80 to 102,400 as standard, expandable up to ISO 409,600. Two values not to be confused: the standard range is where the image remains usable, the extension being a fallback, at the cost of noise.

The rear screen: the FX3A moves up to approximately 2.36 million dots, double the previous resolution. Sensor, BIONZ XR processor, 4K 120p, S-Cinetone, stabilisation and XLR handle remain identical.
Is the Sony FX3A stabilised?
Yes, on five axes, in the body. This built-in stabilisation works with any mounted lens, including a non-stabilised prime — which is what makes the camera usable handheld without an accessory.
How do you connect a professional microphone to the Sony FX3A?
Through the detachable handle with XLR inputs, supplied with the camera. It turns the body into a reportage camera with professional sound, and comes off in a few seconds to switch back to a compact configuration on a gimbal.
Does the Sony FX3A autofocus track a moving subject?
Yes. The hybrid phase-detection system provides real-time eye tracking and recognition-based subject tracking. Seven transition speed settings let you control the focus pull, from the smoothest to the sharpest.
Can the Sony FX3A be controlled from a phone?
Yes, the Monitor & Control app turns a smartphone or tablet into a wireless video monitor, with exposure adjustment and focus control. The Creators' App, for its part, handles transfer to the cloud.
