This Cisco kit brings together the brackets and their screws to fix a one-rack-unit Catalyst 2960 or 2960-S in a 19-inch or 24-inch rack.

Essential in a 24-inch rack

The brackets supplied with a Catalyst 2960 are designed for 19-inch racks. For a 24-inch rack, Cisco relies on this optional kit. It also replaces a pair of brackets lost during a rack change, without improvising a makeshift fixing.

Front or rear panel facing forward

The Cisco installation guide shows the brackets fitted both ways: ports at the front, or rear panel facing forward when patching comes from the back of the rack. Remove screws from the chassis, attach the brackets there, then screw them to the posts. A number-2 Phillips screwdriver is enough.

For a Catalyst 2960-X or 2960-XR, Cisco provides a different part, the RCKMNT-1RU-2KX kit: check the series printed on the front before ordering.

Frequently asked questions about this product

Why buy this kit if my switch already has its brackets?
Because the brackets supplied with a Catalyst 2960 only fit 19-inch racks: for a 24-inch rack, Cisco provides this RCKMNT-1RU kit as an option. It also serves as a spare when the original brackets have been lost during a rack move or a switch replacement, to put the device back properly in the rack.
Which kit should be used for a Catalyst 2960-X?
For a 2960-X or a 2960-XR, Cisco provides a different spare part: the RCKMNT-1RU-2KX kit, and the RCKMNT-REC-2KX for recessed mounting. The RCKMNT-1RU is specified by Cisco for the Catalyst 2960 and 2960-S series. So check the series printed on the front of your switch before ordering.
What tool is needed for installation?
A number-2 Phillips screwdriver is enough. The Cisco guide first has you remove screws from the switch chassis to attach the two brackets, with flat-head Phillips screws, then fix the brackets to the rack posts with Phillips machine screws. The same operation is repeated identically on the second side of the switch.
Can the switch be mounted with the rear panel facing the front of the rack?
Yes. The Cisco installation guide shows the brackets mounted with the front panel forward and with the rear panel forward, in both 19-inch and 24-inch racks: you simply change the orientation of the brackets on the sides of the switch. This is useful when patch cables arrive from the rear of the rack and you want to keep the ports close to the cables.
How much height does the switch take up once mounted?
A single rack unit, i.e. 1U: this is the format of the Catalyst 2960 and 2960-S switches this kit is intended for, and the kit even carries the 1RU mention in its Cisco reference. For recessed mounting in the rack, Cisco offers a separate variant, the RCKMNT-REC-1RU, which sets the switch back from the front posts.
