Four GI-41 bottles — pigment black, cyan, magenta, yellow — and a fifth part number almost nobody sees coming: the MC-G04 maintenance cartridge. It is not ink for printing, it is the tank that collects the ink from automatic cleaning cycles. When it is full, the machine stops.

Every liquid-ink printer cleans its nozzles regularly, and that flushing ink has to go somewhere. On older machines it was soaked up by an internal pad that could not be replaced — the printer became scrap once saturated. Canon has made that tank removable: it is the MC-G04.
In practice: the day the printer reports that the absorber is full, it is not asking for a repair but for a part costing a few dozen dirhams. You still have to know it exists — it is the most misunderstood error message on this range, and many perfectly healthy machines are replaced because of it.
Far more slowly than the ink tanks: expect several years in home use. It fills at every cleaning cycle, not with every page — so a machine that often sits idle, and therefore cleans itself more often, saturates it faster than one that prints every day. It is one of the rare consumables where not printing costs more than printing.
The G3430 takes GI-41 bottles, like the G3420. Do not trust listings that still quote the GI-490 for this machine: that is the previous generation, the one of the G3410. When in doubt, the part number is on the bottle you are emptying.
