It is the plain version of the range: it only prints, with no scanner and no network, and connects over USB. One point matters more here than elsewhere: a laser toner does not dry out. Does a toner expire if you rarely print?

No. The powder in a laser toner is dry by nature: it does not evaporate and it clogs nothing, unlike the ink in an inkjet, which dries in the nozzles when the machine sits unused for weeks. A new, still-sealed cartridge keeps for years in its packaging, away from light and damp.

Should all four colours be bought at once?

No. The four part numbers are independent and run down at very different rates — black goes first in almost every use. Buy what is missing, when it goes missing.

Does the 150nw take the same toners?

Yes, identically. The 150nw is the same machine with Wi-Fi added; the 178nw and 179fnw add a scanner and fax, still with the same set of 117A.

How can I check it is a 150a and not a 150nw?

The exact name is printed on the front and on the label at the back, next to the serial number. The 150a has neither Wi-Fi nor a network port: it connects over USB only. That makes no difference to the consumables — both take the 117A — but it avoids confusion when troubleshooting.
