The 150nw takes HP 117A toners and a 120A drum sold separately. Black: 1,000 pages. Colours: 700 pages each. Because it is on Wi-Fi, it is often shared between several workstations — and a shared printer runs out of toner on behalf of someone who has no spare to hand.

The 150nw is the single-function networked model of the range: it only prints, but over Wi-Fi as well as Ethernet, from any workstation or phone in the office. That accessibility changes everything about the pace of consumption — where the 150a on USB serves one person, this one serves five. At the ceiling of 500 pages a month recommended by HP, a 1,000-page black toner lasts only two months.
So the only spare worth holding is black. On an office machine it goes three to four times faster than each colour, because most of what gets printed is text. Keeping all three colours in reserve ties up money for a need that will come much later.
Nothing urgent. That message is an early warning, not a stop: several dozen pages are usually left. It is the right moment to order, not to replace — especially on a shared machine, where nobody wants to throw away a cartridge that still works.
