What this machine changes about your consumption

The 179fnw is the 4-in-1 of the range: printing, copying, scanning and fax, with a 40-sheet automatic feeder. It is the only one of the four to have one, and that changes everything about the pace of consumption — copying a stack no longer means standing over the machine, and every copy uses toner exactly like a print.

HP puts its monthly volume between 100 and 500 pages. At 500 pages a month of mostly black output, a black 117A toner covers about two months. That is the benchmark to keep in mind when deciding whether to hold a spare part number or not.

Should the drum be bought at the same time as the toners?

No, and that is the whole point of a separate drum: it absorbs several sets of toners before being replaced. The printer displays a dedicated message when its time comes. Ordering it "just in case" ties up more money than the four toners put together.

Does the 117A fit the other models in the range?

Yes, it is the same set as on the HP 178nw, 150a and 150nw. Only the machine's functions change. If your fleet mixes these models, a single toner stock covers all of them.
