The comparison is worth making, because it is counter-intuitive. This machine's feeder swallows 100 sheets at once — the largest in the catalogue. And yet, set against a 13,500-page toner, that whole stack represents only 0.7% of the black cartridge.
That is exactly the opposite of an entry-level multifunction, where a thirty-page stack already eats a tenth of the cartridge. On a machine of this calibre, copying is no longer an action to be rationed: it would take a hundred and thirty-five full stacks to empty a single toner. The real source of consumption here is long print runs, not copies made one at a time.
That is the figure that places the machine: it takes more pages in a month, occasionally, than an office laser prints in three years. At 30 pages per minute and with a full set of four toners each exceeding 13,500 pages, it is built for a whole department, not for one workstation.
The four cartridges are independent and are replaced separately. On this machine it is the black to keep in reserve: it is both the most heavily used — almost every page lays some down — and the least generously supplied, with 13,500 pages against 16,000 for each colour. It is the same logic as on the LaserJet Pro 500 M570dn, where the black is also the weak link in the set. The three colours can be ordered as needed with no risk of a stoppage.
