One cartridge for a whole family

HP lists the 136 for the M209dw and M209dwe, the M211d and M211dw, and the M236d, M236dw and M236sdw multifunction models. That is good news when buying — the part number is common and stocked everywhere — and a source of mistakes when ordering: seeing "M236" on a box does not mean it will not fit your M211dw. Go by the number 136, not by the list of machines printed on the packaging.

136A or 136X: which one?

The ratio is 2.4 to one. The 136X pays for itself as soon as you change toner more than once a year, and it halves the number of interventions. Below that pace, the 136A is enough. Both sit in the same place: nothing stops you alternating according to availability.

What this machine changes about your consumption

The M211dw only prints — no scanner — at 29 pages per minute, with automatic duplex and a Wi-Fi, Ethernet or Bluetooth connection. Automatic duplex is what weighs on the toner: it doubles the number of printed sides per sheet, and so the powder used for the same pack of paper.

No separate drum: the 136 carries everything. That is one part fewer to watch than on the Color Laser 178nw and 179fnw, whose 120A drum is bought separately.

Yes, it is the same part number. Do watch out if the cartridge has already run in another machine: its counter has been started and the level shown will be wrong, without preventing printing.
