Wi-Fi changes who prints

It is the only difference from the M15a, and it concerns not the machine but its use. Connected over USB, a printer serves one workstation: what comes out of it was sent by one person, from one computer.

On Wi-Fi, everything changes. Phones and tablets around the house or the office reach it, guests too, and printing becomes a frictionless act — a photo, a ticket, an attachment received on a mobile. On a machine whose cartridge holds 1,000 pages and which no high-capacity version comes to relieve, that convenience shows directly in the replacement pace.

It is not a fault, it is a trade-off to be aware of: if you add Wi-Fi in order to share the machine among several people, expect to order more often than with the USB version.

One toner a month at the ceiling

HP recommends up to 1,000 pages a month — precisely the yield of a 44A. At full tilt, this printer therefore uses one cartridge a month, no more and no less. At two or three hundred pages, a 44A comfortably covers the quarter.

That is the calculation to make before buying rather than after: the M15w is a standby machine, and it reaches its limit in consumables long before it does in speed or reliability.

How to get the most from a 44A

Duplex is manual: it changes nothing about the toner but halves the paper. The driver's economy mode lightens the powder laid down and suits drafts, not documents to be kept. Finally, a cartridge announcing "low level" still yields several dozen pages once taken out and rocked gently from side to side.

It prints 18 pages per minute, holds 150 sheets and its maximum cycle reaches 8,000 pages. The M15a is the USB version of the same machine.
