Is the Sony FX30 sold with a lens?
No, it is body only. It has an E-mount: the lens is chosen separately. That is the first item to budget for, because on a cinema camera the lens counts as much as the body in the final result.
What sensor does the Sony Cinema Line FX30 use?
An APS-C Exmor R CMOS sensor, measuring 23.3 x 15.5 mm. It delivers 20.1 effective megapixels for video and 26 for stills — two different values, because video does not use the entire surface of the sensor.
What exposure latitude does the Sony FX30 offer?
More than 14 stops. That is the margin between blown highlights and crushed shadows: it determines whether an overexposed sky can be recovered in grading; otherwise the information is lost at the time of shooting.
Which memory cards does the Sony FX30 accept?
Two slots, each accepting an SD card or a CFexpress Type A card. They allow simultaneous recording to both cards — the real-time backup that protects a shoot from a faulty card.
How do you connect a professional microphone to the Sony FX30?
Through the audio handle, which carries two three-pin XLR/TRS inputs switchable between line, mic or mic with +48 V power. A 3.5 mm stereo mini-jack completes the set as a third input.
What is the sensitivity of the Sony FX30 in low light?
ISO 100 to 32,000 for video, with auto ISO capped at 6,400 by default. For stills, the range extends from ISO 50 to 102,400. These are two separate scales: do not compare one body's stills figure with another body's video figure.
Does the Sony FX30 have a viewfinder?
No, framing is done on the 7.5 cm touchscreen, with 2.36 million dots, which opens to 176° and rotates through 270°. That is the approach of Cinema Line cameras: the articulating screen comes first, and an external viewfinder can be added.
What can be output over HDMI from the Sony FX30?
A 10-bit YCbCr 4:2:2 signal or 8-bit RGB, through a Type A HDMI port — the full-size connector, sturdier than micro-HDMI on a shoot. Enough to feed an external monitor or recorder.
How much does the Sony FX30 camera weigh and what are its dimensions?
562 g for the body alone, at 129.7 x 77.8 x 84.5 mm. At this weight, it can go on a motorised gimbal without requiring a heavy-payload model — provided you also count the chosen lens.
How do you transfer footage from the Sony FX30?
Via USB-C at 10 Gbps, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth 5.0. The 10 Gbps of the USB port really matters: 4K rushes totalling several tens of gigabytes copy in minutes rather than hours.
Is the Sony Cinema Line FX30 camera new and under warranty?
New, reference ILME-FX30B, in original Sony packaging. The invoice serves as the warranty document for 1 year. Keep it: it is the document that will be requested in the event of a claim.
