Is a 49-inch 32:9 screen really the equivalent of two monitors side by side?
Yes: the DQHD 5,120 × 1,440 resolution equals two QHD panels joined together, without the black bezel in the middle, with a density of 110 pixels per inch. You get the width of two monitors with a single video cable and a single stand, on a display area 1,196.7 mm wide.
How much space do I need on the desk?
It measures 1,194.7 mm wide, 529.3 mm high and 236.9 mm deep with its stand, and weighs 12.6 kg: a 120 cm desktop is the bare minimum. Without the stand, it drops to 8.8 kg; the panel has a 1800R curvature and is just 4.5 mm thick at its thinnest point.
Which cables are supplied, and is the second HDMI port a standard HDMI?
The box contains the monitor, its remote control, a DisplayPort cable and the power cable. On the HDMI side, the monitor has one standard HDMI 2.1 port and one Micro HDMI 2.1 port: to use the second one, you will need a Micro HDMI cable, best bought at the same time as the console or second PC.
Does it have speakers, or do I need to add external ones?
It has built-in 10 W speakers: no need for external speakers for a video call, a series or a gaming session. Active Voice Amplifier Pro technology also boosts voices when the soundtrack gets busy — useful since the monitor can also serve as a streaming player on its own.
Can it be used without a computer connected to it?
Yes. The monitor runs the Tizen platform with the Gaming Hub and streaming apps, connects over Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2 and is operated with the supplied remote control. An internet connection and a Samsung account are required to access these services; without an account, use is limited to external sources.
Can I watch TV channels on it?
No, this smart monitor has no built-in TV tuner. Content comes through the streaming apps, the Gaming Hub or a source connected over HDMI or DisplayPort — a set-top box, console or PC takes over for that, all operated with the supplied remote control.
How does this monitor protect its OLED panel from burn-in?
With OLED Safeguard: a thermal modulation system that anticipates the surface temperature and adjusts brightness, logo and taskbar detection that automatically dims their brightness, and a screen saver that kicks in after 10 minutes of inactivity.
Do these protections also work when the screen is used as a PC monitor?
Partly: logo detection is not available in PC mode. Thermal modulation and the screen saver remain active; note that the modulation is only permanent if the “Adjust Logo Brightness” setting is set to “High”. For long stretches of office work, it is best to auto-hide the taskbar.
Are reflections a problem on this large OLED panel?
That is exactly what Glare Free anti-reflection technology addresses: the panel is 54% less reflective than Samsung's traditional anti-reflective film, which preserves deep blacks even with a window or a lamp behind you. Typical brightness is 250 cd/m², with a claimed contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1.
What should I turn on to see dark scenes more clearly?
The Dynamic Black Equalizer analyses the brightness of the scene and automatically adjusts sharpness, saturation and shadow detail. Note that it requires Game mode to be enabled in the settings: otherwise, it does nothing. It works on top of the OLED blacks, displayed without any light bleed.
Can the monitor keep up with a 240 Hz gaming PC?
Yes: 240 Hz and 0.03 ms GtG, over HDMI 2.1 as well as DisplayPort 1.4, with G-Sync compatibility and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro to eliminate stuttering and screen tearing. The refresh rate actually reached depends on the performance of the source.
Is the Odyssey OLED G9 G95SD new and under warranty?
Yes: it is new and sealed in its original packaging, supplied with its invoice, which serves as the warranty document for 1 year, along with its remote control, DisplayPort cable and power cable. You only need to add the Micro HDMI cable if you plan to use that second input.
