How many buttons on the Basilisk V3 are actually programmable, and where is the one that switches profiles?
11 programmable controls (10 + 1). The eleventh is located on the underside of the mouse and switches from one profile to another mid-action — one setting for your FPS, another for Excel or video calls — without going through any software.
Is the HyperScroll wheel notched or free-spinning?
Both. Tactile mode gives notched scrolling, precise for switching weapons or spells, and free-spin mode sweeps through a long page in a single flick; Smart-Reel mode, enabled in Synapse, switches from one to the other as soon as you scroll faster. The wheel also tilts left and right, for scrolling in all 4 directions.
Do I need to install Razer Synapse, and do my settings follow me if I change computers?
The mouse stores 5 profiles in its onboard memory: your shortcuts and DPI follow you to any computer, with nothing to install. Synapse is used to enable the wheel's advanced features, such as Smart-Reel or virtual acceleration, which increases the scrolling speed as you scroll faster.
How many clicks can the buttons take before they wear out?
70 million clicks are claimed for the 2nd-generation Razer optical switches, with 0.2 ms actuation and no unwanted double-clicks. The feet are made of 100% PTFE, the highest grade, to keep gliding consistent on any surface.
Can this mouse be repaired, or does it have to be thrown away at the first fault?
It is UL ECOLOGO certified, a label that checks ease of disassembly and the availability of repair parts, compliance with European Union substance restrictions and manufacture in ISO 14001-certified factories. The packaging is made of FSC cardboard printed with soy ink, and a recycling programme accompanies the product.
Has the mouse been tested for prolonged contact with the skin?
Yes: it has been assessed for skin sensitisation (dermal biocompatibility) as part of its UL ECOLOGO certification, and it complies with European regulations on restricted substances.
Do the 11 RGB zones really react to what happens in the game?
Yes. The 11 individually programmable LEDs sync dynamically with over 150 Chroma-integrated games, across a palette of 16.8 million colours and countless lighting effects. Each zone can be set separately, including to tone the lighting down on a work computer.
Does the Basilisk V3 work wirelessly, and does it need charging?
No, it is wired, via USB: nothing to recharge, no dropouts mid-game, no dongle to misplace. The trade-off is having to live with the cable on the desk — the deliberate compromise of a competition mouse that is always plugged in.
