Patriot Viper Xtreme 5 · Reference PVX532G64C32K

Two 16 GB modules,
tuned together at 6400 MT/s.

This Viper Xtreme 5 kit brings together two 16 GB DDR5 modules tested together for dual channel. One click on the XMP 3.0 profile takes them from 4800 to 6400 MT/s at CL32, and two more conservative profiles serve as a fallback. This is the non-lit version, recognisable by its red bar.

Three speeds ready in the BIOS

Patriot has stored three XMP 3.0 profiles in each module. The first sets 6400 MT/s at CL32 at 1.4 V; the second 6200 MT/s at 36-44-44-110 at 1.45 V; the third 6000 MT/s at 36-36-36-76 at 1.35 V. If a processor cannot hold 6400 MT/s, you step down one notch without touching the timings. Without a profile, the kit runs at 4800 MT/s at 40-40-40-77 and 1.1 V.

A kit checked pair by pair

Each kit is hand-tested on an Intel DDR5 platform before shipping, to make sure the two modules hold the speeds of their profiles together. Patriot has qualified this kit on Intel Z790 and B760 and AMD X670E, X870E, B650 and B850 motherboards; on a platform outside that list, a lower speed or manual tuning may be needed.

What sits under the heatsink

The matte black aluminium heatsink carries the white Viper logo and, along the crest, a red bar shaped like a snake's head, in place of the light bar of the RGB versions. Underneath, each module has a power management circuit (PMIC), which allows higher frequencies without excessive voltage, on-die error correction and a thermal sensor readable by monitoring software.

Frequently asked questions about this product

How do you enable 6400 MT/s?
Through the XMP 3.0 profile in the BIOS: the first profile sets 6400 MT/s at CL32 and 1.4 V. Two more conservative profiles exist, 6200 MT/s (36-44-44-110, 1.45 V) and 6000 MT/s (36-36-36-76, 1.35 V), useful if the processor cannot hold 6400. With no profile enabled, the kit runs at 4800 MT/s (40-40-40-77, 1.1 V). Patriot tested these three profiles one by one on an Intel DDR5 platform.
Does this kit work on an AMD motherboard?
Patriot has qualified it on AMD X670E, X870E, B650 and B850 motherboards, as well as on Intel Z790 and B760. Its profiles are stored in Intel XMP 3.0 format. On a platform not on this list, Patriot warns that a lower speed or manual tuning may be needed to keep the system stable. At the standard frequency of 4800 MT/s, no setting is required.
Why buy a kit of two modules rather than two separate modules?
The two 16 GB modules in the kit are tested together, by hand, on an Intel DDR5 platform before shipping: they are made to work in dual channel at the XMP profile speeds. Two modules bought separately, even identical on paper, do not offer this assurance of running together at 6400 MT/s. Both modules share the same profile settings.
What is the difference with the RGB version of the Viper Xtreme 5?
This reference is the non-lit version: the top of the heatsink carries a red bar shaped like a Viper snake head instead of the light bar. The matte black aluminium heatsink and the white Viper logo remain. It is the choice for a case without a glass panel or a build without lighting software. How much height is needed under the CPU cooler?
Each module measures 135 × 44 × 6 mm: its 44 mm height exceeds that of a module without a heatsink. Under a large tower cooler, check the clearance above the memory slots given by its manufacturer. Water cooling or an offset cooler generally leaves the necessary room. The heatsink is only 6 mm thick. The kit weighs 49 g.
What do the PMIC, on-die ECC and thermal sensor bring?
The built-in PMIC manages power on the module and allows higher frequencies without excessive voltage. On-die ECC corrects errors inside the memory chips, without making it server memory. The thermal sensor lets PC monitoring software read the temperature of each module. These three features are present on each of the two modules.
