Which toner fits the HP LaserJet Pro 3003dw?

3003 or 3203: two digits, two worlds

This is the costliest naming trap in the range, and it hangs on two digits in the machine's name:

• the LaserJet Pro 3001 to 3004 and 3101 to 3104 are monochrome and take the 145A;
• the LaserJet Pro 3201 to 3204 and 3301 to 3304 are colour and take the 222A, in four cartridges.

The names look alike, so do the bodies, and nothing on the toner packaging catches the mistake: a black 222A cartridge will not fit a 3003dw, and vice versa. The only reliable check is the full number read on the front — or the supplies status menu, which shows the exact part number of the cartridge fitted.

If in doubt, ask yourself the simplest question: does your machine print in colour? If not, it takes the 145A.

145A or 145X depending on volume

HP recommends 350 to 2,500 pages a month. At the bottom of the range, a 145A covers almost five months; at the ceiling, about twenty days. The 145X occupies the same slot and is fitted the same way: it is only worthwhile at the top of the range, to space out orders on a shared machine.

Fast, and well connected

33 pages per minute, automatic duplex, 250 sheets of input and 150 of output, with dual-band Wi-Fi that switches by itself to the more stable frequency, plus Ethernet and USB. Its maximum cycle reaches 50,000 pages — a mechanical limit, never a basis for calculation.

Mind the output bin: at this rate, its 150 sheets fill in under five minutes on a long run, exactly as on the 3103fdw.
