A 59A is 75 minutes of printing without stopping

The conversion is worth doing once. At 40 pages per minute, emptying a 59A takes about 75 minutes of continuous running; a 59X, a little over four hours. No office prints like that, but the order of magnitude says something useful: on this machine, one large occasional job — a tender file, a set of manuals — can use a third of a cartridge in an afternoon.

That is the opposite of a slow machine, where volume spreads out naturally. Here, speed uses nothing by itself: it simply changes what people dare to launch, and therefore what actually goes.

Three functions out of four lay down toner

Printing, copying and receiving a fax use toner; scanning does not. On a station with a document feeder, a stack of fifty pages copied in one action already represents 1.7% of a 59A — a trivial gesture, repeated ten times in the month, and that is a sixth of the cartridge.

Two trays, two weights

350 sheets split between a 100-sheet tray 1 and a 250-sheet tray 2. Only the first takes up to 200 gsm; the second tops out at 120. Covers and heavy media therefore go through the small tray — a rule that has nothing to do with the cartridge, but which is often blamed on it when powder bonds badly.
