A toner's yield means nothing on its own. Compared with the other monochrome lasers in the catalogue, that of the 136A places the machine at once:
A 1,150-page toner is a little more than two reams of paper. In an office printing daily, that means several replacements a year where a higher-class machine would call for one.
It holds 2,600 pages, 2.3 times the 136A, and costs clearly less per page. On this machine it is not a comfort option: it is the format to take by default as soon as the printer is used more than once a week. The 136A still makes sense for genuinely occasional use, where tying up less money is preferable.
The M236dw prints, copies and scans at 29 pages per minute, over Wi-Fi as well as Ethernet, with automatic duplex, for 7.6 kg and a 150-sheet tray. Its recommended cycle peaks at 20,000 pages a month, but its consumable tells the truth about its use: it is built for one workstation, a small office, a shop.
