The colours stop at the 953XL. Black, on the other hand, has an extra step:
That scale matches the reality of an office: black runs out two to three times faster than each colour. The most common mix, and the most rational, is therefore a 957XL black with 953XL colours — you line up the life spans instead of changing the black alone every two months.
The machine comes out of the box with a 1,000-page black — a genuine 953 — but with colours rated for 540 pages between the three of them, far less than a set of 953s. Your first colour replacement will therefore come sooner than the machine's normal pace, and the next will last noticeably longer.
The 7740 prints, copies, scans and faxes up to A3 format, with an automatic feeder and a touchscreen. Remember that the stated yield is measured in A4: on a job entirely in A3, count on half the pages. The OfficeJet Pro 9730 page, the catalogue's other A3 inkjet, develops that calculation.
Two habits for an office inkjet: do not unplug it from the mains — it maintains its nozzles on its own at regular intervals — and print at least one colour page a week, which prevents drying. Drying is not an issue on lasers, whose powder is dry.
