It has to be said plainly, because it is what surprises people at the first order: the standard 932 black holds about 400 pages — less than a ream. On a machine that loads 250 sheets, that is barely more than a tray and a half.
The 932XL yields 1,000 — two and a half times more. On this printer the XL version is therefore not a comfort: it is the normal regime, and the standard version only makes sense for very occasional use or as a stopgap.
The trap lies in how the part numbers read: 932 and 932XL differ by two letters only, on boxes that look much alike. Check the suffix before confirming — it is the only thing separating 400 pages from 1,000.
Black and colours alike, these cartridges hold pigment inks: solid particles laid on the sheet, which resist water and do not fade. A report, a drawing, a notice out of this machine stands up to handling and filing — which a dye-based inkjet does not allow.
That fits its purpose: the Officejet 7110 is a large-format printer, made for documents that get displayed or handed round. The greater the printed area, the faster the ink goes: a full-page print uses several times what a letter uses, and the stated 400 pages, measured on ordinary text, shrink accordingly.
HP recommends 200 to 800 pages a month. At the ceiling, a 932XL lasts a month and a few days, a standard 932 less than a fortnight. The machine has no screen at all: the ink level can only be read from a workstation or over the network, on Wi-Fi or Ethernet. With no software installed, no warning will reach you.
