Frequently asked questions about this product

Can you use compatible non-HP toner cartridges?
This M507dn is supplied with dynamic security enabled: it is intended only for cartridges with a genuine HP chip. A cartridge with a non-HP chip may not work, and those that work today might stop working in the future. So count on 89A, 89X or 89Y toners.
Which toner should you choose to replace it less often?
Three capacities fit this machine: 89A – 5,000 pages, 89X – 10,000 pages and 89Y – 20,000 pages. The printer comes with a 5,000-page toner; in an office that prints several thousand pages a month, the extra-high capacity significantly reduces the number of replacements.
Is a cable supplied to connect it?
No, the USB cable must be purchased separately. The box contains the printer, the 5,000-page toner, the power cord, the guides and the warranty cards; no software is included in the box. The most suitable connection remains the Gigabit Ethernet network — you will also need an RJ45 cable.
Can it be set up over Wi-Fi?
No, the M507dn has no built-in Wi-Fi: the network connection goes through the Gigabit Ethernet port. Wireless can be added as an option, with the HP Jetdirect 2900nw (J8031A) print server. The machine also provides a hardware integration pocket and two host USB ports for this kind of add-on.
Can you print from an iPhone or an Android phone?
Yes, as soon as the printer is connected to the network: it supports Apple AirPrint, Mopria certification and HP ePrint, and both iOS and Android are among its compatible systems. The HP Roam feature also lets you send a job while on the move and collect it from a compatible printer in the fleet.
How far can the paper capacity of the M507dn be increased?
It starts at 650 sheets (100-sheet multipurpose tray + 550-sheet tray) and accepts up to 3 optional 550-sheet trays, for a maximum of 2,300 sheets, with a dedicated cabinet available. The output, however, remains at 250 sheets: that is the point to watch on long print runs.
Can the printer's memory be expanded?
Yes: 512 MB as standard and up to 1.5 GB once the optional DIMM module is installed, with a processor clocked at 1.2 GHz. An encrypted hard drive of at least 500 GB can also be added, enough to make use of print job storage.
Does automatic duplex printing slow printing down much?
It is automatic and built in as standard, and throughput drops from 43 pages/min single-sided to 34 images/min in duplex. The first page comes out in 5.9 seconds from ready, and in 10 seconds from sleep.
Can it print envelopes and heavy paper?
Yes, through tray 1: B5, C5, C6 and DL envelopes (10 at a time), with paper weights of 60 to 200 g/m². Tray 2 handles common sizes from A6 to A4 at 60 to 120 g/m²: keep envelopes and heavy paper for tray 1. Labels, transparencies and cardstock are also among the supported media.
Is it built for an office that prints a lot?
Two figures not to confuse: the maximum duty cycle reaches 150,000 pages per month, while the recommended volume for a long service life is between 2,000 and 7,500 pages a month. It is this second range that you should compare with your actual usage.
Does it also copy, scan or fax?
No: the M507dn is a single-function printer, in black and white only — no scanner, no automatic document feeder, no fax. In return, it prints at 600 dpi and up to 1,200 × 1,200 dpi at best quality, with HP FastRes and ProRes 1200 technologies.
What is the difference between the M507dn and the M507x?
The dn is operated from a 6.9 cm colour LCD display with numeric keypad, not touch-sensitive. The x adds a 10.9 cm touchscreen, a third 550-sheet tray as standard, and dual-band Wi-Fi with Bluetooth. For a workstation connected to the wired network, the dn provides the same printing service.
What IT security protections does this printer have?
The firmware is checked and validated at every start-up using an HP signature, memory activity is monitored continuously, and outgoing network connections are inspected to block suspicious requests. On the network side: IPsec as standard, 802.1x, SNMPv3, SSL certificate management, and a firewall with access control lists.
How much space do you need on the furniture for the M507dn?
Allow 418 mm wide, 299 mm high and 376 to 639 mm deep depending on whether the trays are closed or extended — this variable depth is the trap with furniture that is too tight. It weighs 11.48 kg, and 14.3 kg in its box.
Is this HP LaserJet M507dn new and under warranty?
