It is dual-band: 300 Mbps on the 2.4 GHz band and 867 Mbps on the 5 GHz band. The sum of the two gives the AC1200 name — no single device receives 1,200 Mbps on its own.
Does the RE315 range extender halve the Wi-Fi speed?
Its high-speed mode reserves one band for the link with the internet box and the other for devices. This avoids the classic range extender flaw of listening and retransmitting on the same frequency and losing half the bandwidth.
Does the TP-Link RE315 create a second network name?
Not if it is paired with a OneMesh router: the network then keeps a single name and moving from one area to another happens without dropouts. With a non-compatible internet box, it works as a standard range extender.
