Is the ribbon supplied with the printer, and how long does it last?
Yes, a ribbon is included in the box, along with the power cable, the driver CDs and the user manual. Each ribbon lasts 10 million characters, which means long intervals between replacements and low running costs. It is a black ribbon: the LQ-690II prints in black and white only.
Which ribbon should I reorder, and can I reuse the ones from my old LQ-690?
The consumable is the LQ-690 black ribbon, reference C13S015610, with a capacity of 10 million characters. It is transferable: the ribbons from your current printer fit the LQ-690II instead of being thrown away. A first ribbon is supplied in the box in any case.
How many multipart copies can the LQ-690II print in a single pass?
The original plus six copies, i.e. seven sheets per pass. The accepted thickness for multipart forms ranges from 0.12 to 0.49 mm, and paper thickness adjustment is automatic: nothing to adjust between two types of form.
Can it print on labels, envelopes, card or continuous paper?
Yes, all four. It accepts cut-sheet and continuous paper (single-part or multipart), labels, roll paper, envelopes and card. As for thickness: 0.065 to 0.15 mm for single sheets, up to 0.49 mm for continuous paper, and 0.16 to 0.19 mm for label sheets.
Can the LQ-690II print barcodes?
Yes, eleven symbologies: EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 39, Code 128, Codabar (NW-7), Industrial 2 of 5, Interleaved 2 of 5, Matrix 2 of 5 and POSTNET. Ten character tables are also built in, including PC437, PC850, PC858 and ISO-8859-15.
Does the advertised 487 characters per second apply to all print qualities?
No: 487 cps corresponds to high-speed draft mode at 10 cpi, measured with the printer's resident fonts. In standard draft you get 366 cps, and in letter quality (LQ) 121 cps. At 12 cpi, these three values become 529, 396 and 132 cps respectively.
How does it connect, and do the drivers work on Windows 11?
It connects via USB 2.0 or bidirectional parallel, and the drivers cover Windows from 98 to Windows 11, as well as Windows Server 2003 SP2 and later. One point to plan for: the drivers, the software and the Epson Status Monitor utility are supplied on CD.
How long does the LQ-690II print head last?
It is rated for 400 million strokes per pin, and the machine has a mean time between failures of 20,000 hours. Both figures are explicitly aimed at producing large volumes of documents with reduced maintenance.
Can it be installed in a hot or humid warehouse?
Yes: the chassis is designed to withstand high humidity and heat, and Epson positions this machine for the office as well as the warehouse. The operating range is nevertheless limited to 5 to 35 °C. Compact and robust, it weighs 6.8 kg and is 480 mm wide.
What is its power consumption if it stays on all day?
38 W when printing and just 3 W in sleep mode. You can therefore leave it switched on permanently at a data entry station or a till.
How much desk space does it take, and does it need space behind it?
It measures 480 × 301 × 211 mm and weighs 6.8 kg. Leave clearance at the rear: single sheets are inserted at the front and come out at the front, but continuous paper feeds from the rear.
Is the printer new and under warranty?
Yes: the LQ-690II (C11CJ82401) is new, in its original packaging, with its warranty document and its ribbon. The invoice serves as the warranty document for 1 year. Full specifications are given in the Epson datasheet (PDF).
