Frequently asked questions about this product

What power supply does the MSI RTX 5080 GAMING TRIO OC need?
An 850 W unit is recommended, as the card alone draws 360 W, and it connects via a 16-pin connector — not the usual 8-pin ones. It is the first thing to check on your power supply before ordering.
Does the Gaming/Silent dual BIOS change the clock speeds?
No, not on this model: the boost stays at 2,700 MHz in both modes, Gaming and Silent alike. What the second BIOS changes is the fan curve, and therefore the noise level. The “Extreme Performance” mode in MSI Center, on the other hand, takes the card to 2,715 MHz.
How much space does this RTX 5080 take up in the case?
338 mm long, 140 mm high, 50 mm thick, weighing 1,362 g. This thickness exceeds the standard dual-slot width, and the weight justifies an anti-sag bracket if your case accepts one. Measure the available length: 33.8 cm rules out many compact towers.
What resolution is this RTX 5080 16 GB aimed at?
4K. It features 10,752 CUDA cores and 16 GB of 30 Gbps GDDR7 on a 256-bit bus, with a 2,700 MHz boost: it is the memory bandwidth that makes it possible to sustain this resolution with ray tracing enabled, with DLSS taking over in the most demanding titles.
Which video outputs, and how many displays?
Three DisplayPort 2.1b ports and one HDMI 2.1b output. The latter supports 4K at 480 Hz or 8K at 120 Hz with DSC compression, variable refresh rate and HDR. HDCP is supported for playback of protected content.
How does MSI cool this 360 W card?
With the Tri Frozr 4 system: a nickel-plated copper baseplate captures heat from the GPU and the memory, square-section heat pipes maximise contact with this plate, wave-curved fin edges channel the airflow, and seven-blade Stormforce fans aim for reduced noise. The backplate is made of metal.
Which interface and which APIs does it work with?
PCI Express Gen 5, with support for DirectX 12 Ultimate and OpenGL 4.6. DirectX 12 Ultimate is the feature set that recent titles require for hardware ray tracing and variable rate shading.
Is the card new and under warranty?
Yes, new and covered for 1 year, with your invoice serving as the warranty document. The exact part number is 912-V531-005; full specifications are given in the MSI technical documentation.
