Which Synology NAS models accept this D4EC-2666-16G memory module?
The SA series (SA3400D, SA3200D) and UC series (UC3400, UC3200), followed by the RackStation 21 series (RS4021xs+, RS3621xs+, RS3621RPxs, RS2821RP+, RS2421RP+, RS2421+), 19 series (RS1619xs+), 18 and 17 series.
Is there any specific requirement for the RackStation RS4017xs+?
Yes: to install this module in an RS4017xs+, the NAS must be running DSM 6.2.2-24922-6 or later. Update the system before fitting the module.
Is this Synology memory module a short or a long form factor?
It is the long DIMM form factor (UDIMM), the one used in rack server slots — not the short SO-DIMM of desktop DiskStation models. The two are not interchangeable: check the form factor your model requires.
What does ECC error correction bring to this type of NAS?
It automatically detects and corrects memory errors, which keeps operation smooth even under heavy load. On a professional storage system, it is the assurance that the data written is exactly the data received.
Why not put a generic memory module in a Synology NAS?
Because Synology says so in writing: non-Synology memory may cause system instability or boot failures, and the manufacturer then provides neither full warranty nor technical support for the memory upgrade.
