Do you need two RG-EST330F-P bridges to link two buildings?
Yes: the box contains a single bridge. A point-to-point link therefore requires two units, one at each end, one configured as the BaseStation and the other as the CPE. In point-to-multipoint mode, a single base station serves up to 5 links, and pairing takes one click.
Are the bridge's network ports Gigabit?
No, all 3 ports are 10/100 Mbps. The 5 GHz radio is rated at 867 Mbps, but the usable end-to-end throughput remains capped by these Fast Ethernet ports. When sizing an installation, it is the measured bridge throughput — 40 to 90 Mbps depending on distance — that you should go by.
What real-world throughput do you get at 1, 2 or 3 km?
The measured bridge throughputs are 90 Mbps at 0.5 km, 80 Mbps at 1 km, 60 Mbps at 2 km and 40 Mbps at 3 km in HT40, with received signal dropping from −54 to −75 dBm. So size the link on the actual distance between the two sites, not on the theoretical radio rate.
How many cameras can one link carry?
It depends on resolution and distance: 18 cameras at 3 MP at 0.5 km and 8 at 3 km; 12 cameras at 4 to 5 MP at 0.5 km and 5 at 3 km; 8 cameras at 6 to 7 MP at 0.5 km and 3 at 3 km; 5 cameras at 7 to 8 MP at 0.5 km and just one at 3 km. The number therefore drops quickly as resolution increases.
Do the two PoE outputs work whatever power option you choose?
No, and this is the main pitfall: the 2 PoE Out ports are only active when the bridge itself is powered by 24 V passive PoE or 802.3at. Connected to the supplied 12 V adapter or to an 802.3af source, it works on the network but no longer powers anything. 24 V PoE is therefore the power option to favour.
How much power is left for the cameras powered by the bridge?
The PoE Out budget is 15.4 W in total for both ports, shared between the connected devices. The bridge itself draws less than 9 W without PoE Out, and less than 24.4 W when it is powering devices. Beyond those 15.4 W, the cameras will need a separate power supply.
Is the mounting bracket supplied with the bridge?
No, no mounting bracket is included: the box contains the bridge, a PoE injector and a DC power adapter. So plan for pole or wall mounting when you order. The unit measures 198.8 × 102 × 53.4 mm and weighs 370 g, and the complete package weighs 910 g.
How do you aim the antenna correctly between the two sites?
The built-in 13 dBi antenna has a beamwidth of only 30° both horizontally and vertically: aiming must be precise. The bridge has an alignment tool, 3 signal strength LEDs, a spectrum scan to choose the least congested channel, and an assisted coverage map.
Can this bridge withstand rain, cold and lightning?
IP55 rating, operation from −30 to +55 °C, 5 to 95% non-condensing humidity, ESD protection of 8 kV contact and 15 kV air, and ±4 kV common-mode surge protection. MTBF exceeds 400,000 hours and the unit is CE certified: this is equipment designed to stay outdoors all year round.
What does TDMA technology do on this link?
It shares traffic over time between the devices on the bridge link, which stabilises throughput in dense environments. There are two modes, fixed and flexible, and TDMA makes it possible to mix EST and AirMetro series bridges on the same link.
Can it be managed remotely once installed up high?
Yes: Reyee cloud management, a self-organising network of up to 200 devices, remote reboot, firmware upgrade, backup/restore, bridge throughput test, and ping, traceroute and DNS diagnostics. SNMP, however, is not supported, and neither is link aggregation.
How is the wireless link secured?
The link is encrypted with WPA2-PSK and the management SSID @Ruijie-bxxxx can be hidden. The bridge carries VLAN packets, which preserves network segmentation from one end of the link to the other.
Is this Reyee RG-EST330F-P bridge new and under warranty?
Yes: new and sealed equipment, supplied with its invoice, which serves as the warranty document for 1 year. Throughput by distance, camera limits and power options are detailed in the manufacturer's datasheet (PDF).
