Two speakers,
a single power outlet.
The pair consists of an active speaker, which carries the amplification, inputs and controls, and a passive speaker that it powers through a speaker cable. A desktop format for the home studio, video editing and gaming, with Bluetooth on top of the wired inputs.

Everything starts at the active speaker
The sources arrive at the back of the active speaker: two balanced 6.35 mm TRS jacks and two RCA. The left input feeds the active speaker's amplifier, the right one feeds the passive speaker's; hence the advice to place the active speaker on the left. The IEC C7 power cord plugs into it alone, and two bare-wire terminals send signal and power to the passive speaker over the 2-metre cable supplied.

A single knob sets the volume of the speakers and of the headphones. Next to it, a 3.5 mm mini-jack input takes a media player, in addition to the rear inputs; the headphone jack mutes the speakers as soon as you plug in. The central LED tells it all: white in standby, blue when on, blue and green while pairing, green once the phone is connected.
Tuned for the room, not to flatter
The woven 4.5-inch woofer and the small one-inch silk tweeter hand over to each other at 2.8 kHz, for a response of 70 Hz to 20 kHz with no boosted bass. Two rear controls correct the room rather than the mix: High raises or lowers everything above 10 kHz by 6 dB, Low does the same below 100 Hz, useful when the speakers sit close to a wall.

A thin sound with no bass? Check the speaker cable: the red terminal of the active speaker goes to the red one of the passive, black to black. Reversed polarity is enough to hollow out the bass.

Are the Eris 4.5BT sold individually or as a pair?
As a pair: the box contains an active speaker, which carries the amplification, inputs and controls, and a passive speaker that it powers through the 2 m speaker cable supplied. The two go together: the passive speaker receives sound and power from the active one.
How do I connect a smartphone over Bluetooth?
Hold the pairing button on the back of the active speaker for three seconds: the front LED flashes blue and green, then choose “Eris 4.5BT” on the phone. Once paired, the LED turns green. Two devices can be remembered, but only one plays at a time.
Can I listen on headphones without disturbing anyone?
Yes: the 3.5 mm mini-jack headphone socket at the front mutes the speakers as soon as headphones are plugged in. The same volume knob then controls the headphones. You can thus work late on an edit or a mix without the whole house hearing it.
Which sources can be connected to the Eris 4.5BT?
Four types of input: two balanced 6.35 mm TRS jacks and two RCA at the back for an audio interface, a mixer or a player, a 3.5 mm mini-jack input at the front for a media player, and Bluetooth 5.0. A mini-jack to 2 RCA cable and a stereo mini-jack cable are supplied to get started with a computer.
What are the High and Low controls on the back for?
They adapt the sound to the room: High raises or lowers everything above 10 kHz by 6 dB, Low does the same around 100 Hz. A speaker placed against a wall swells the bass: you then turn Low down; in a very damped room, raising High brings back presence in the treble.
Do the speakers go into standby on their own?
Yes, when power saving is enabled: without an audio signal for 40 minutes, they go into standby and the front LED turns white. They wake up as soon as the sound returns, without touching the power switch.
How much space should I plan on the desk?
Each speaker measures 163 mm wide, 241 mm high and 179 mm deep, and the pair weighs 4.5 kg. Eight foam pads are supplied, four under each speaker, to decouple them from the worktop. The active speaker, which carries the controls, is best placed on the left.
