The left half
of a critical listening setup.
The A8H is the top of the ADAM Audio A Series: a three-way midfield monitor, available in two mirror-image versions. This one is the left version, with its 8-inch woofer on the left when viewed from the front. It is sold individually and forms the stereo pair with the right version.

Why a left and a right version
On the A8H, the woofer takes up one whole side of the front and the midrange driver sits below the tweeter, on the other side. Placed to the listener's left, this version keeps its woofer on the outside and brings the tweeter and midrange driver closer to the center; the right version, reference 12108600, is its exact mirror image. In a narrow room, the user manual allows the two to be swapped, as long as the acoustic axis stays at 60°.

The 8-inch mineral-fiber woofer, with a 38 mm voice coil, holds the bass down to 31 Hz at -6 dB with a front port. At 400 Hz, a 3.5-inch Dome Cone Hybrid midrange driver takes over across the range where the ear is most sensitive, then the folded-diaphragm X-ART tweeter above 3 kHz. Each way has its own amplifier: 250 W peak PWM for the lows, 70 and 20 W peak Class A/B for the mids and highs.
For medium to large rooms
Each speaker reaches 105 dB SPL peak at 1 m, and peak and thermal limiters dedicated to each driver protect it. On the back: XLR and RCA inputs, level from -12 to +12 dB, Pure and UNR voicings, room adaptation with four buttons. The RJ45 port connects the pair to the free A Control software, which adds six parametric filters, a delay per speaker and the import of a correction calculated with Sonarworks SoundID.

Why a left version and a right version?
Because the woofer is not centered: on the left version, it is on the left when you face the speaker, with the midrange and tweeter on the opposite side. Placed according to their name, the two speakers have their woofers on the outer sides. For a stereo pair, you therefore need this speaker and the right version, sold under the reference 12108600.
Can the two speakers be swapped?
Yes, in a narrow room the user manual allows it: you swap left and right while keeping each speaker's acoustic axis aimed at the listener, at 60° in the equilateral triangle. A single A8H, left or right, can also serve as a center speaker, with its acoustic axis aligned with the listening position.
What does the midrange of a 3-way monitor bring?
It isolates the range where the ear is most sensitive. On the A8H, a 3.5-inch Dome Cone Hybrid midrange takes over from the 8-inch woofer at 400 Hz and hands over to the X-ART tweeter at 3 kHz; each way has its own amplifier, for 340 W peak in total. The result: 31 Hz to 45 kHz at -6 dB and 105 dB SPL peak per speaker at 1 m.
Which sources can be connected to the A8H?
One balanced XLR input and one unbalanced RCA input, on the rear; the Input Select button chooses between them. The input accepts up to +19 dBu, enough to take the line output of an audio interface or a mixing console. Audio cables are not included; the user manual allows 100 m of cable on XLR and 10 m on RCA.
What are the Pure and UNR voicings for?
Pure gives the most neutral response, measured in anechoic conditions: it is the setting for mixing and mastering. UNR recreates the more colored curve of ADAM's earlier AX Series speakers. A third position, Ext, activates the settings sent by the A Control software; the rear level knob is then ignored.
How do I adapt the speaker to my room?
With four buttons on the rear panel: Bass (+2 to -4 dB) compensates for a nearby wall, Desk (0 to -4 dB) for the reflection from a desk, Presence (±1 dB) for overly prominent mids and Treble (±1.5 dB) for the highs. The user manual suggests, for example, -2 dB on Bass near a plaster wall. The A Control software adds 6 parametric filters, level and a delay.
Do I need a computer to set it up?
No: the essential settings are on the rear panel. The RJ45 Ethernet port is also used to control one or more speakers from the free A Control software (Windows and macOS, downloaded after registering in the MyADAM area), to apply a delay of 0 to 10 ms, to import a room correction calculated with Sonarworks SoundID and to update the firmware. The network cable is not included.
