The Sub8 is a compact subwoofer for rooms up to 20 m²: small control rooms, offices, editing suites. Its front-firing 8.5-inch woofer and its 160 W amplifier extend the bass of any near-field monitor system down to 28 Hz, and its two main settings can be controlled by remote.

Two motorized knobs, one remote
On the front, two knobs set the volume, from -60 to +6 dB, and the crossover frequency, from 50 to 150 Hz. They are motorized, and the supplied wireless remote acts on these same settings: you adjust the bass from the listening position, where you really hear it. For near-field or midfield monitors, the user manual recommends a crossover of 70 to 75 Hz; a mark shows 85 Hz, the value recommended by Dolby for surround sound.

The audio interface feeds the subwoofer's left and right inputs, via XLR or RCA; the monitors connect to its satellite outputs. A selector sends them the full range, or a signal filtered at 85 Hz that spares them large bass excursions. Also on the back: phase inversion, to try after each crossover change, and the Signal On mode, which starts the subwoofer with the music and turns it off after fifteen minutes of silence.
Where to put it
Near the monitors, and away from large reflective surfaces. Each nearby wall adds 6 dB of bass; in a corner, 18 dB, at the cost of accuracy. The user manual suggests a simple method: put the subwoofer at the listening position, move around the room and install it where the bass sounds best. Protective caps fit on its four feet, and felt pads are provided for hard floors.

What is the remote control for?
To adjust the volume and the crossover frequency from the listening position. The two knobs on the front are motorized, and the wireless remote control acts on these same settings. It comes with its two AAA batteries.
Which crossover frequency should I choose?
It can be set from 50 to 150 Hz. For near-field or midfield monitors, the user manual recommends 70 to 75 Hz, often tighter than a high value; a marker indicates 85 Hz, the value recommended by Dolby for surround sound. After each change, also try the other phase position.
Should the monitors be connected to the Sub8?
It is the recommended setup: the audio interface feeds the subwoofer's XLR or RCA inputs, and the monitors connect to its satellite outputs. A selector then sends them either the full range or a signal filtered at 85 Hz, which relieves them of the large bass excursions and often gives them more clarity.
Does the Sub8 stay on all the time?
It is up to you, with a button on the rear. In Signal On mode, which is recommended, it starts as soon as music arrives and switches off after fifteen minutes without signal; the status indicator then changes from green to yellow. In Continuous mode, it runs without interruption.
