The Eris 5BT are the largest of the Eris Bluetooth monitors: 5.25-inch woofer, 100 W in class D, response down to 55 Hz. The box contains the pair, an active speaker that does all the work and a passive one that it powers.

More cone, more breath
Each speaker pairs a 5.25-inch woven-composite woofer with a one-inch silk-dome tweeter, crossed over at 3.3 kHz. The class D amplification delivers 50 W per side: the pair goes down to 55 Hz and up to 104 dB peak at one metre.

An audio interface connects to the two balanced 6.35 mm TRS jacks of the active speaker, a turntable or a player to the two RCA. At the front, the 3.5 mm mini-jack input takes a media player, and Bluetooth 5.0 a phone: press the pairing button for three seconds and the speaker appears as “Eris 5BT”. Two devices stay in memory, only one plays at a time.
Space to plan on the desk
Each speaker measures 178 mm wide, 261 mm high and 200 mm deep; the pair weighs 6.3 kg. Eight foam pads decouple both cabinets from the worktop. The active speaker, which carries the volume, headphone jack and switch, is best placed on the left: its left input feeds it, the right one feeds the passive speaker.

The LED stays white and no sound comes out? The speakers are in standby: they wake up as soon as the signal returns. If only the passive speaker is silent, check that the bare wires are fully inserted in both terminals.

Are the Eris 5BT sold individually or as a pair?
As a pair: the box contains an active speaker, which carries the amplification, inputs and controls, and a passive speaker that it powers through the 2 m speaker cable supplied. The two go together: the passive speaker receives sound and power from the active one.
How do I connect a smartphone over Bluetooth?
Hold the pairing button on the back of the active speaker for three seconds: the front LED flashes blue and green, then choose “Eris 5BT” on the phone. Once paired, the LED turns green. Two devices can be remembered, but only one plays at a time.
Can I listen on headphones without disturbing anyone?
Yes: the 3.5 mm mini-jack headphone socket at the front mutes the speakers as soon as headphones are plugged in. The same volume knob then controls the headphones. You can thus work late on an edit or a mix without the whole house hearing it.
Which sources can be connected to the Eris 5BT?
Four types of input: two balanced 6.35 mm TRS jacks and two RCA at the back for an audio interface, a mixer or a player, a 3.5 mm mini-jack input at the front for a media player, and Bluetooth 5.0. A mini-jack to 2 RCA cable and a stereo mini-jack cable are supplied to get started with a computer.
What are the High and Low controls on the back for?
They adapt the sound to the room: High raises or lowers everything above 10 kHz by 6 dB, Low does the same around 100 Hz. A speaker placed against a wall swells the bass: you then turn Low down; in a very damped room, raising High brings back presence in the treble.
Do the speakers go into standby on their own?
Yes, when power saving is enabled: without an audio signal for 40 minutes, they go into standby and the front LED turns white. They wake up as soon as the sound returns, without touching the power switch.
