The A44H follows the A Series recipe, two 4-inch woofers and an X-ART tweeter, in a cabinet just 135 mm high. It slips under a screen, onto a rack shelf, or takes the center channel of a multichannel setup. It is sold individually.

A folded tweeter rather than a dome
In the center, the X-ART tweeter does not use a dome but a 2,420 mm² diaphragm folded like an accordion. As they compress, its folds push the air out four times faster than the diaphragm itself moves: the treble extends up to 45 kHz. The HPS waveguide around it spreads the treble over 120° horizontally and 70° vertically, and it rotates to follow the orientation of the cabinet. Two long-throw mineral-fiber woofers, with two front ports, hold the bass down to 46 Hz.
Everything is set on the back
The rear panel brings together the balanced XLR input, the RCA input and the button that selects between them, the level control from -12 to +12 dB, the voicing button and the four room adaptation buttons. Pure gives the most neutral response; UNR recalls the more colored sound of the earlier AX series. The RJ45 port connects the speaker to the free A Control software: remote adjustment, delay of up to 10 ms, six parametric filters and firmware updates.

The user manual suggests a baseline setting for each situation, to be fine-tuned by ear afterwards. Against a wall, you take out bass with Bass; on a desk, you compensate for the effect of the surface with Desk.

Where an upright monitor would be in the way
In a control room, a pair of A44H keeps the window and the screen clear. For stereo listening, the two speakers and the head form an equilateral triangle; the wall behind the speakers should be either less than 30 cm from their backs or more than 2 m away, to avoid dips in the bass. Four M8 inserts under the cabinet take a mount.

Is the A44H sold as a pair?
No, it is sold individually: the box contains one speaker, its power cord and the quick start guide. For stereo listening, you need two. On its own, it also fits in as the center speaker of a multichannel or immersive system, a role its horizontal format was designed for.
Why choose a horizontal monitor?
Because it fits where a vertical speaker would get in the way: at 135 mm high and 432 mm wide, the A44H sits on a rack shelf, above or below a screen, without blocking the picture. The X-ART tweeter is placed between the two 4-inch woofers, and the frequency response remains that of a near-field monitor: 46 Hz to 45 kHz at -6 dB.
Which sources can be connected to the A44H?
One balanced XLR input and one unbalanced RCA input, on the rear; the Input Select button chooses between them. The input accepts up to +19 dBu, enough to take the line output of an audio interface or a mixing console. Audio cables are not included; the user manual allows 100 m of cable on XLR and 10 m on RCA.
What are the Pure and UNR voicings for?
Pure gives the most neutral response, measured in anechoic conditions: it is the setting for mixing and mastering. UNR recreates the more colored curve of ADAM's earlier AX Series speakers. A third position, Ext, activates the settings sent by the A Control software; the rear level knob is then ignored.
How do I adapt the speaker to my room?
With four buttons on the rear panel: Bass (+2 to -4 dB) compensates for a nearby wall, Desk (0 to -4 dB) for the reflection from a desk, Presence (±1 dB) for overly prominent mids and Treble (±1.5 dB) for the highs. The user manual suggests, for example, -2 dB on Bass near a plaster wall. The A Control software adds 6 parametric filters, level and a delay.
Do I need a computer to set it up?
No: the essential settings are on the rear panel. The RJ45 Ethernet port is also used to control one or more speakers from the free A Control software (Windows and macOS, downloaded after registering in the MyADAM area), to apply a delay of 0 to 10 ms, to import a room correction calculated with Sonarworks SoundID and to update the firmware. The network cable is not included.
What power and sound level can I expect?
The hybrid amplification delivers 130 W peak in total: 110 W peak, or 90 W RMS, in PWM for the woofers, and 20 W peak, or 15 W RMS, in class A/B for the tweeter. Each speaker reaches 103 dB SPL peak at 1 m with sine bursts, and independent limiters protect each driver and each amplifier.
How do I install the A44H?
Four M8 threaded inserts under the cabinet take a mounting plate or a bracket. The tweeter and waveguide module rotates: you turn it with an Allen key, with the tweeter protected by masking tape, to keep the right dispersion when the speaker changes orientation. The user manual recommends doing this before installation.
