in the A Series.
The A4V is the most compact monitor in the ADAM Audio A Series: 268 mm high and 5.8 kg, for a desk, a small control room or an immersive system where speakers multiply. Yet it keeps the X-ART tweeter and all the DSP control of its bigger siblings. It is sold individually, in black.

Designed for close listening
One meter from the listener, a monitor above all has to stay clear. The long-throw 4-inch woofer reaches down to 52 Hz at -6 dB, and the folded-diaphragm X-ART tweeter extends up to 45 kHz. The crossover between the two sits at 3 kHz, and the two bass reflex ports open at the front. Near a wall, the Bass button takes back the excess bass.

The module that holds the tweeter and its HPS waveguide turns a quarter turn: the A4V can then lie on its side, under a screen or in a low cabinet, without the treble narrowing in the wrong direction. The waveguide spreads the treble over 120° in one direction and 70° in the other. The user manual advises rotating the module before installation, with the tweeter protected by masking tape.

On the back, the Desk button reduces the effect of a reflective work surface by 2 or 4 dB, Bass compensates for a nearby wall, Presence and Treble fine-tune the mids and highs. Two voicings to choose from: Pure for neutrality, UNR for the color of the earlier AX series. XLR and RCA inputs, level from -12 to +12 dB, and an RJ45 port to control everything from the free A Control software.

Is the A4V sold as a pair?
No, it is sold individually: the box contains one black speaker, its power cord and the quick start guide. For stereo listening, you need two. Its small size also makes it a speaker of choice to complete a multichannel or immersive system, which relies on many playback points.
What room size is the A4V made for?
For small control rooms and close-range listening: it is the most compact monitor in the A Series, at 268 mm high and 5.8 kg. Its 4-inch woofer reaches down to 52 Hz at -6 dB and each speaker reaches 100 dB SPL at 1 m. For more bass in a larger room, the series offers the A7V and its 7-inch woofer.
Which sources can be connected to the A4V?
One balanced XLR input and one unbalanced RCA input, on the rear; the Input Select button chooses between them. The input accepts up to +19 dBu, enough to take the line output of an audio interface or a mixing console. Audio cables are not included; the user manual allows 100 m of cable on XLR and 10 m on RCA.
What are the Pure and UNR voicings for?
Pure gives the most neutral response, measured in anechoic conditions: it is the setting for mixing and mastering. UNR recreates the more colored curve of ADAM's earlier AX Series speakers. A third position, Ext, activates the settings sent by the A Control software; the rear level knob is then ignored.
How do I adapt the speaker to my room?
With four buttons on the rear panel: Bass (+2 to -4 dB) compensates for a nearby wall, Desk (0 to -4 dB) for the reflection from a desk, Presence (±1 dB) for overly prominent mids and Treble (±1.5 dB) for the highs. The user manual suggests, for example, -2 dB on Bass near a plaster wall. The A Control software adds 6 parametric filters, level and a delay.
Do I need a computer to set it up?
No: the essential settings are on the rear panel. The RJ45 Ethernet port is also used to control one or more speakers from the free A Control software (Windows and macOS, downloaded after registering in the MyADAM area), to apply a delay of 0 to 10 ms, to import a room correction calculated with Sonarworks SoundID and to update the firmware. The network cable is not included.
How do I install the A4V?
Four M8 threaded inserts under the cabinet take a mounting plate or a bracket. The tweeter and waveguide module rotates: you turn it with an Allen key, with the tweeter protected by masking tape, to keep the right dispersion when the speaker changes orientation. The user manual recommends doing this before installation. Laid on its side, it can thus be used horizontally.
