The Komplete Kontrol A25 is a 25-key semi-weighted keyboard controller that drives Komplete instruments and NKS-format plug-ins without a detour through the mouse: an OLED display, eight pre-mapped knobs and a navigation encoder sit above the keys, across 488 mm.

Find a sound without leaving the keyboard

The 4-directional encoder browses the Komplete Kontrol software library, sorted by category, and previews each sound before loading it. The Preset buttons then step to the next or previous setting of the instrument, and the OLED display shows the name of the sound as well as that of the current parameter.

Recording controlled from the keyboard

In supported music software, the left-hand section replaces keyboard shortcuts: play, record with count-in, stop, loop, metronome and tempo, then Undo and Redo, quantize and automation mode. Two Solo and Mute buttons complete the section.

A MIDI controller you can program

Outside Native Instruments instruments, MIDI mode turns the A25 into a custom controller: the mapping editor of the Komplete Kontrol software defines the messages sent by the knobs, the keyboard and the pedal, and several templates can be recalled in an instant to switch from one app or MIDI device to another.

Spoken feedback for visually impaired musicians

Accessibility features have the computer announce the buttons pressed, the library navigation, the current edit mode and the parameter name of a knob as soon as it is touched. Native Instruments recommends them with VoiceOver in Logic Pro X and GarageBand.

Keep the information sheet supplied in the box: its serial number is used to register the keyboard, a step required to download the Komplete Kontrol software.

Frequently asked questions about this product

Which software comes with the Komplete Kontrol A25?
The Komplete Kontrol software, a selection of Komplete instruments and Ableton Live Lite, downloaded after registering the keyboard with the serial number printed on the supplied information sheet. The exact content of the selection depends on Native Instruments' offer at the time of registration.
Does the Komplete Kontrol A25 work with other software?
Yes. Besides Komplete instruments and hundreds of plug-ins in NKS format, it closely controls Ableton Live, Logic Pro X, Cubase, Nuendo, Studio One, Pro Tools and GarageBand, supports the Mackie Control protocol, and elsewhere behaves like an ordinary USB MIDI controller, recognised by any MIDI-compatible software.
What are the eight touch-sensitive knobs for?
They are pre-mapped to the most useful settings of each loaded Komplete or NKS instrument, and change assignment with the chosen mode. Just touch a knob to see on the OLED display the parameter it controls, even before turning it.
What is Smart Play?
A set of playing aids built into the keyboard: over 100 scales and modes to stay in key, chords and arpeggios triggered from a single key, and a mode that maps any scale onto the white keys only.
Does the Komplete Kontrol A25 need a power supply?
No. It is powered by the computer's USB port, which also carries the MIDI: no power adapter is needed. Native Instruments recommends connecting it directly to the computer for a stable connection.
What system does the Komplete Kontrol software require?
macOS 13 to 15 or 64-bit Windows 10 or 11, an Intel Core i5 processor or equivalent or an Apple Silicon chip, 4 GB of RAM, 6 GB recommended, and an internet connection for activation. The instruments open standalone or as VST, VST3, AU or AAX plug-ins.
Can you connect a sustain pedal?
Yes. The FOOT PEDAL input, on the rear, takes a pedal with a TRS jack plug that is assigned to sustain in the software settings; half-damper pedals are supported. The pedal is not included.
