The KeyLab 49 mk3 brings together on one white chassis with wooden side panels a 49-key semi-weighted keyboard with aftertouch, 12 pads, 9 faders, 9 encoders and a colour display. It controls the computer's software and, through its MIDI ports, the synthesizers in the studio.

A keyboard that follows your hand
The 49 semi-weighted keys measure attack velocity, release velocity and the pressure applied once the note is down: channel aftertouch sends this pressure to the software, which can shape the sound as long as the note is held. On the left, the pitch and modulation wheels complete the playing.

The 12 RGB pads respond to striking force and pressure, to play drums or trigger clips. Nine 50 mm faders and nine endless encoders, all touch-sensitive, control volumes and parameters, a clickable encoder is used for navigation, and the 3.5-inch TFT display, surrounded by eight context buttons, shows what you are adjusting. Eight transport buttons control recording.

The multimode arpeggiator, random mode included, turns a held chord into a rhythmic pattern. Chord mode builds a full chord from a single note, with its voicing and a strumming effect, and Scale mode locks playing to a scale. Hold keeps the notes, and six user presets store favourite setups.
At the heart of the software
The keyboard integrates directly with Analog Lab and Arturia's V Collection and recognises instruments in NKS format. Dedicated scripts link it to Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Cubase, FL Studio and Bitwig Studio, the Mackie Control and HUI protocols cover other software, and MIDI Control Center is used to customise the mappings.
Synthesizers to control without a computer
On the rear, three pedal inputs, Aux, Expression and Sustain, come before the 5-pin DIN MIDI In and MIDI Out ports, the 12 V power input and the USB-C port. Connected to a computer, USB-C is enough to power the keyboard; to control a synthesizer on its own, a 12 V DC 1 A adapter takes over.

Which software comes with the KeyLab 49 mk3?
Analog Lab Pro and its sound bank taken from Arturia instruments, Ableton Live Lite, the Mini V, Piano V and Augmented Strings instruments, the Rev PLATE-140 effect, two months of Loopcloud subscription and 40 Melodics lessons. The licences are activated with the supplied registration card.
Does the KeyLab 49 mk3 have aftertouch?
Yes: channel aftertouch, which modulates the sound when you press harder on a key that is already down. The 49-note semi-weighted keyboard also measures attack and release velocity, and the 12 RGB pads respond to both striking force and pressure.
Can you control a synthesizer without a computer?
Yes, through the 5-pin DIN MIDI Out port. The keyboard must then be powered by a 12 V DC 1 A adapter, optional and not included; with a computer, the USB-C port is enough to power it and carry the MIDI.
