The Wi-Fi from across the way, brought indoors.
The C1n goes where the signal arrives weak, against a window, on a wall or on a roof. Its antenna picks up the distant base station and its Ethernet output shares the connection inside the building.

An antenna that looks in one direction
The two built-in panels, polarised at ±45°, concentrate 10 dBi in a sector of 70° horizontally and 30° vertically, and attenuate by 20 dB what comes from behind. Facing an Altai A8-Ein(ac) base station, the link holds up to 4 km in line of sight, 3 km to an A3-Ei. The 2x2 802.11n transmitter reaches 29 dBm, within the limit set by local regulations.
An LED to aim right
On the back, an 8-segment level LED shows the strength of the received signal: turn the unit until as many segments as possible light up, then tighten the mount. The C1n can also stand on a desk, indoors, facing the window.

The same unit works as a CPE connecting to an existing network, as a repeater, or as a small 2.4 GHz access point for 802.11b, g or n devices, with up to 16 SSIDs. It runs in bridge or gateway mode with NAT, DHCP and PPPoE, and is managed through its web interface, over SSH or from the AltaiCare and AltaiGate platforms.

The C1n works only on 2.4 GHz. The 18 V passive PoE injector is in the box; to power it from an 802.3af PoE switch, you also need the 802.3af to passive PoE adapter, sold as an option by the manufacturer.

What is a CPE like the C1n used for?
To pick up a distant outdoor Wi-Fi network and make it usable indoors: placed against a window, on a wall or on a roof, it connects to the base station and brings the connection back through its Ethernet port. It can also act as a small 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi access point for 802.11b, g or n devices.
At what distance does it connect to a base station?
In line of sight, up to 4 km from an Altai A8-Ein(ac) base station and up to 3 km from an A3-Ei. These ranges assume Altai's Super WiFi range at the other end. An obstacle on the path or interference reduces them.
How is it powered?
Through its Ethernet cable, with 18 V passive PoE: the DC injector and the AC adapter are in the box. To power it from an 802.3af PoE switch, you need the 802.3af to passive PoE adapter, sold as an option. It draws 6 W in typical use, 8 W maximum.
Can it stay outdoors all year round?
Yes: its UV-stabilised plastic enclosure is IP55 compliant, it operates from -20 to +55 °C and withstands winds of 200 km/h. It mounts on a pole, on a wall or against a window, and can also stand on a desk.
How do you aim it at the base station?
With its 8-segment signal level LED: turn the unit until as many segments as possible light up. Its sector antenna covers 70° horizontally and 30° vertically, and attenuates by 20 dB the signal coming from behind.
Does it work on 5 GHz?
No. The C1n works only on 2.4 GHz, from 2.400 to 2.485 GHz, on channels 1 to 13, in 802.11b, g and n. It therefore connects to a base station or router broadcasting on 2.4 GHz. In the same Altai range, the C1an model is the one that works on 5 GHz.
