Does the AMO-5G10 omni antenna have a built-in radio?
No, you need to add a Rocket radio, sold separately. The antenna is passive: it has an integrated RocketM mount into which the radio snaps without tools or screws. It is the combination of the two that forms an omnidirectional base station, with the radio providing the electronics and the antenna its 10 dBi over 360°.
What is in the box of the AMO-5G10 antenna?
The antenna, its universal mast mount, the RocketM mount and the weatherproof RF jumpers. All the mechanical and radio-frequency essentials are therefore included, except for the Rocket radio and the mast. The pre-weatherproofed jumpers save you from having to seal the connections yourself once at the top of the mount.
Does an omnidirectional antenna like the AMO-5G10 cover every direction?
Over 360° horizontally, yes, but over only 12° vertically. The radiation pattern forms a flat disc, with a 4° downtilt already built in to serve clients located lower than the mast. A subscriber placed almost directly below the mount falls outside this beam, whatever the transmit power.
Exactly which frequencies does the AMO-5G10 cover?
From 5.45 to 5.85 GHz. This is a portion of the 5 GHz band, not all of it: a channel chosen below 5.45 GHz would fall outside the range for which the antenna is specified. The frequency plan is therefore decided by taking the antenna into account as much as the Rocket radio that fits into it.
What difference does the dual polarisation of the AMO-5G10 antenna make?
It makes 2x2 MIMO possible: two data streams travel on the same frequency, one on the vertical polarisation, the other on the horizontal. The cross-polarisation isolation of at least 25 dB between them keeps them from mixing — that is the condition for throughput to double instead of degrading.
What are the dimensions and weight of the AMO-5G10 on a mast?
582 × 90 × 65 mm and 680 g, not counting the mast mount and the Rocket radio. It is the most compact of the five antennas in the airMAX Omni family: the 13 dBi version for the same band already reaches 799 mm. The extra gain therefore comes at the cost of tube height taken up on the mount.
Will the AMO-5G10 hold at the top of a mast that is highly exposed to wind?
It is rated for wind survival at 200 km/h, in a narrow, closed profile that offers little grip to the wind. Its 680 g and small diameter also limit the torque applied at the top of the mast — a point that matters more on an existing structure than on a new installation sized for the purpose.
Which standards does the AMO-5G10 antenna comply with?
It is specified to the ETSI EN 302 326 DN2 standard, which governs antennas for point-to-multipoint transmission systems, and states NDAA compliance. Its standing wave ratio stays below 1.6:1: little energy is reflected back to the transmitter, a sign of good matching with the radio.
Is the AMO-5G10 antenna new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. As it is a passive component, with no power supply or on-board electronics, the points to watch during installation are purely mechanical: tightening on the mast and weatherproofing of the RF jumpers.
