Frequently asked questions about this product

How many watts can the BX1600MI-FR really handle?
900 W for a stated 1600 VA, which is a power factor of 0.56. The gap is significant: it is the wattage you need to compare with your equipment, and it is best to stay well below it — at full load, the UPS provides only one minute of backup.
What does the BX1600MI-FR's AVR regulator correct, and over what range?
It restores a correct voltage without switching to battery, over an input range of 140 to 300 V. That is a wide window: where the mains voltage rises and falls all day long, the battery is not called upon and stays available for real power cuts.
What waveform does the UPS deliver on battery?
An approximated sine wave, built up in steps, not a pure sine wave. Switchover takes 6 milliseconds at half load and 10 at most, an imperceptible interval for a desktop computer.
How long does it take to recharge the BX1600MI-FR's battery?
8 hours for a full recharge, on a battery rated for 3 to 5 years of service. It is the unit's wear part: beyond that horizon, it is the battery you need to plan to replace, not the UPS.
How much space does the UPS take up, and is it noisy?
14 cm wide, 39 cm deep, 19 cm high, for 10.3 kg — 11.5 kg with packaging. It is rated at 40 dBA: audible in a quiet room, so it is better placed on the floor than next to the monitor.
How many outlets does the BX1600MI-FR have?
Four French outlets in Schuko format, into which you plug your devices directly, without an adapter. With 900 W to share out, that covers a complete workstation: the computer tower, one or two monitors and their accessories.
Can the UPS be connected to a computer for automatic shutdown?
Yes, it has a USB connection: linked to the computer, it lets you trigger a clean system shutdown before the battery runs out, rather than suffering an abrupt power cut in the middle of writing a file.
What frequency does the UPS operate at?
It automatically detects a 50 or 60 Hz input at ±5 Hz and delivers the same frequency at ±1 Hz, synchronised with the mains. This wide input tolerance lets it cope with an unstable mains supply without switching to battery.
Is the APC Back-UPS BX1600MI-FR new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document, for a period of 2 years. It is CE and CB certified and compliant with the EN/IEC 62040 standards; the datasheet lists all the values.
