What is the EcoControl function of the Ellipse PRO 1200 for?
It automatically switches off peripherals when the master device shuts down: the monitor, printer and speakers no longer stay on standby all night just because the PC is off. Eaton claims up to 20% energy savings, and the 1200 model has two EcoControl outlets.
How long does the Ellipse PRO 1200 run on battery?
9 minutes at 50% load and 5 minutes at 70%. These runtimes are given at a power factor of 0.7 and remain approximate: they vary with the protected equipment, the temperature and the age of the batteries.
Can the Ellipse PRO 1200 be mounted under a desk, under a monitor or in a rack?
All four positions are catered for thanks to its ultra-slim 82 mm design: upright under a desk, flat under a monitor, in a 19-inch rack taking 2U with the ELRACK kit, or on the wall with the ELWALL kit. Both kits are sold as options.
How many of the eight outlets are battery-backed?
Four French outlets are surge-protected and battery-backed; the other four are surge-protected only and go off with the mains. Two of them are the EcoControl outlets, the ones the UPS deliberately switches off when the main workstation shuts down.
Does the UPS protect the phone line and the network?
Yes, its IEC 61643-1 certified surge protection also covers data lines: phone, fax, modem, internet and Ethernet. A surge coming in through the line is a common, and often overlooked, cause of destroyed internet boxes or network cards.
What can you read on the Ellipse PRO's display?
The UPS status, measurements — including the actual power consumption of your devices — and the unit's settings: output voltage, audible alarm, sensitivity. Measuring the connected load is rare in this price range, and it is what lets you check that you stay below 750 W.
What does the AVR correct, and over what voltage range?
A boost and buck regulator raises low voltages and lowers high voltages without switching to battery, between 165 and 285 V — a range adjustable down to 150-285 V. Where the grid fluctuates constantly, this is what avoids wearing out the battery for nothing.
What is in the ELP1200FR box?
The UPS, its power cord, a USB cable, the manual in 20 languages and the safety instructions. The Eaton UPS Companion software completes the package: safe system shutdown, power consumption measurement and UPS configuration.
What happens if you plug too many devices into the Ellipse PRO?
A resettable circuit breaker cuts the power and is reset with a button, with no fuse to replace. Remember to unplug the excess device before resetting: the 750 W of usable power correspond to the 0.625 power factor of the stated 1200 VA.
Is the Ellipse PRO's battery replaceable, and do you get a warning?
Yes, it is easy to replace, and an automatic periodic self-test detects the problem before it occurs. The UPS also protects the battery against deep discharge and can start on battery, with no mains power present.
Is the Ellipse PRO 1200 noisy, and how much does it weigh?
Less than 27 dBA: it can sit on a desk without being noticed. Allow for 9.9 kg in a 275 × 82 × 390 mm enclosure — the weight comes from the lead-acid batteries, something to bear in mind if you plan to wall-mount it.
