How long will my PC last during a power cut?
About 14 minutes for one PC, and 5 minutes if two PCs are connected — enough to save your work and shut down properly, not enough to keep working for long. These times are typical: they vary with the connected hardware, the configuration, the age of the battery and the temperature.
Do my devices plug in directly, or do I need special cords?
The 4 output sockets are IEC C13 and the input is C14: these are the connectors used on tower unit, monitor and server cords. So you will need one C13 cord for each device to be protected.
Does the UPS switch to battery at every voltage drop?
No. Its double-boost AVR automatic regulation corrects undervoltages and overvoltages by itself over an input range of 140 to 300 V, without drawing on the battery. The battery therefore remains available for genuine power cuts: that is the advantage of the line-interactive topology on a fluctuating grid.
Is it noisy if I put it next to my workstation?
It is fanless and stays below 25 dBA in normal operation on mains power. It becomes a little more audible, below 40 dBA, when it switches to battery mode or to AVR regulation. The fanless design covers the whole range up to 1200 VA, which makes it acceptable in an office as well as in a living room.
Can it shut down my computer properly if I am not in front of it?
Yes, via the USB port: the UPS integrates automatically with the power management of Windows, macOS and Linux to trigger an orderly system shutdown. The Eaton UPS Companion software, provided by the manufacturer, also lets you analyse consumption and adjust the UPS settings.
Can it be started when the power is already off?
Yes, it supports cold start and powers your devices with no mains present. Its batteries are recharged at all times, even when the unit is switched off. Finally, an automatic restart function restarts it as soon as power returns, even after a complete battery discharge.
How can I tell that the battery is reaching the end of its life?
The UPS runs an automatic battery test and triggers a replacement alarm when the battery wears out. So you do not have to monitor its condition yourself, or discover the problem on the day of a power cut. In the meantime, the battery is kept charged at all times, even when the UPS is switched off.
700 VA / 360 W: what can I actually plug into it?
360 W of usable power, typically a desktop computer and its monitor. The range is designed for computers, workstations and peripherals, internet routers and NAS units, TVs and consoles, home security systems and cash registers. It is the combined consumption that counts, not the number of sockets: add up that of your devices before choosing.
How do you monitor the UPS status day to day?
Through the status indicator on the on/off button on the front. Detailed monitoring — battery status, consumption, settings — is done through the USB port and the Eaton UPS Companion software.
Is the output voltage suitable for the local power grid?
Yes. It accepts an input of 220 to 240 V at 50/60 Hz (operating range 46 to 65 Hz) and delivers 230 V, adjustable to 220, 230 or 240 V depending on the connected equipment. The voltage stabiliser is built into the unit.
Which safety standards does this UPS comply with?
It is CE-certified by the external body TÜV and stated to comply with the UPS standards IEC/EN 62040-1, 62040-2 and 62040-3, as well as with the EAC, UKCA, Cm and Ukr markings.
