Frequently asked questions about this product
Of the 3S700F's eight outlets, how many keep working during an outage?
Four. The other four FR outlets are protected against surges but switch off with the mains. Plug the desktop tower, the monitor and the router into the four battery-backed outlets, and keep the others for peripherals that can afford to shut down.
Why do 700 VA give only 420 W?
The power factor is 0.6: 700 × 0.6 = 420 W actually available. Add up the wattage of what you plug into the battery-backed outlets and stay below this ceiling — this is a UPS for a light workstation, a PC with its router, not for a complete office.
Does the 3S700F correct mains voltage fluctuations?
No, it has no AVR regulator: as an off-line unit, it passes grid power through as is and only switches to battery in the event of an outage or when the voltage goes out of range. On a grid that fluctuates constantly, a line-interactive model will spare the battery better.
Can you charge a phone directly on this UPS?
Yes, two USB charging ports are provided for mobile devices, in addition to the USB communication link with the PC. Charging a phone therefore takes up none of the eight power outlets.
Does the PC shut down on its own before the battery runs out?
Yes, the UPS's USB link triggers an automatic, clean shutdown of the computer, and the cable is included. This is what prevents an abrupt power cut in the middle of writing a file, which a basic UPS without communication can do nothing about.
Is the UPS noisy in a living room?
It stays below 25 dB measured at one metre, the level of a quiet room: it can sit next to a TV, a games console or a workstation without being heard.
How does the 3S700F plug in, and how much does it weigh?
Its input cord ends in a Schuko plug, and the unit weighs 4.2 kg in a tower format. It accepts an input of 220 to 240 V, with a wide frequency range of 46 to 70 Hz, and outputs 230 V, adjustable to 220 or 240 V.
Is the Eaton 3S Gen2 3S700F new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. It is the entry-level model for power protection: switchover to battery in a few milliseconds, surge protection, and no regulation electronics to maintain.
