Of the eight outlets, how many are actually powered during a power cut?
Four. The other four are surge-protected but not battery-backed: they go off with the mains. Plug the desktop tower, the monitor and the internet box into the battery-backed outlets, and leave the others for the printer, speakers or a charger, which can stop without harm.
How many batteries does the 3P1700UF contain, and can they be replaced?
Two 12 V / 9 Ah sealed lead-acid batteries, replaceable. The UPS tests them automatically, protects them against deep discharge and can cold start. On the other hand, runtime cannot be extended with an external module: this internal capacity is the limit.
Does the UPS regulate the voltage between the mains and your devices?
No. In offline mode, mains power passes through unchanged as long as it stays between 184 and 264 V (adjustable from 161 to 284 V), and the UPS switches to battery as soon as it goes outside that range. No AVR regulator is involved: on a grid that fluctuates constantly, the battery works more often.
Why do 1700 VA only amount to 1040 W?
The output power factor is 0.6: 1700 × 0.6 = 1040 W actually available. It is this wattage that you should compare with the combined consumption of your devices, never the VA shown in the product name — a complete workstation with one or two monitors and its accessories is exactly what this model is aimed at.
Can the UPS be mounted in a 19-inch rack?
No, no rack-mount kit is provided: it is a tower unit. It is, however, very narrow — 81 mm wide, 312 mm long and 305 mm high, weighing 7.8 kg — so it can stand against the side of a desk rather than in the way.
What is the 3P1700UF's efficiency at full load?
97%. In other words, less than 3% of the power passing through the unit is lost as heat. On a UPS that is permanently switched on, that is the difference between a lukewarm unit and a hot one, and it limits the share of the electricity bill attributable to the protection itself.
In what environment can this UPS be installed?
Between 0 and 40 °C, up to 95% relative humidity non-condensing and up to 3,000 m altitude. These limits cover an office as well as a non-air-conditioned technical room, provided the room does not exceed 40 °C in summer.
How does the UPS connect to the mains?
Via a 1.50 m input cord, supplied, which plugs into the unit's C14 inlet: the cable is therefore detachable and can be replaced if needed. Make sure there is a wall socket less than one and a half metres from the chosen location.
Can a mobile be charged without taking up one of the eight outlets?
Yes, two charging ports are built into the unit, one USB-A and one USB-C. They are separate from the USB communication port connected to the PC, and separate from the eight mains outlets.
What does the UPS show during a power cut?
An LED display shows the status of the unit. For more detail — measured consumption, settings, scheduled shutdown of the workstation — you need the Eaton UPS Companion software, connected via the supplied USB cable, which also triggers a clean shutdown of the computer.
Can the UPS status be monitored from a phone?
Not out of the box: no network card is included and the unit has no Ethernet interface. The unit does, however, have a communication card slot; the CLOUD-PS card, sold separately, adds real-time status and notifications via a web browser or a mobile app.
Is the Eaton 3P Ellipse 3P1700UF new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. The box contains the UPS, its input cable, a USB cable, the quick start guide and the safety instructions; the datasheet lists all the electrical specifications.
