Technology & protection: when the power fails, it switches to battery within a few milliseconds and protects against surges.

How long does the EL1600USBFR run on battery?
11 minutes at 50% load, i.e. 500 W, and 6 minutes at 70%, i.e. 700 W. Enough to save your work, close applications and properly shut down a complete workstation.
How many of the eight outlets are battery-backed?
Four. The other four are surge-only outlets for peripherals: protected against surges, but off during a power cut. Split your devices accordingly — PC, monitor and internet box on one side, printer and speakers on the other.
Can the Eaton software shut down the PC automatically?
Yes, via the supplied USB cable: the Eaton software, included as standard, handles automatic shutdown, alerts and event history. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, with no special configuration.
Why does 1600 VA give only 1000 W?
The power factor is 0.625: 1600 × 0.625 = 1000 W actually available. That ceiling in watts is the one to respect — a PC with one or two monitors and their accessories fits comfortably within it.
What does the EcoControl function do on this UPS?
It automatically switches off peripherals on standby when the master device shuts down. A workstation turned off at night thus stops its monitor, printer and speakers from drawing power — a continuous saving, not just during power cuts.
Does the UPS protect the telephone line and the network?
Yes, its built-in surge protection, compliant with the IEC 61643-1 standard, also covers data lines: telephone, modem, internet and Ethernet. That is where the surges you do not see coming arrive.
Does the EL1600USBFR regulate the mains voltage?
No, it has no AVR regulator: as an off-line model, it passes mains power through as long as it stays within the 184-264 V range — adjustable from 161 to 284 V — and switches to battery outside it. Where the voltage fluctuates constantly, a line-interactive UPS is easier on the battery.
How do you install this 81 mm extra-flat unit?
Vertically under a desk or horizontally under a monitor: both positions are catered for. It is 81 mm thick, measures 312 × 305 mm and weighs 7.8 kg — the weight comes from the lead-acid battery.
Can the battery be replaced, and does the UPS start without mains power?
Yes to both: the sealed lead-acid battery is easily replaceable, with an automatic periodic self-test that detects the problem before a failure; and the cold start function lets you switch the UPS on from the battery with no power present.
Is the Eaton Ellipse ECO EL1600USBFR new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document, for 2 years on a standard-exchange basis, batteries included. It runs below 25 dBA and has a resettable circuit breaker to get going again after an overload. The datasheet compares the models.
