Do the highlight pointer and zoom work without installing software?
No. The USB receiver remains plug-and-play for moving forward and back, but without the Logitech Presentation software you lose highlighting, magnification and the circle, time management, keeping the screen on and button customisation. Install it before your first presentation.
Do you need administrator rights to install it on a company PC?
Yes, installing the Logitech Presentation software requires administrator rights on the machine: if your computer is locked down by your IT department, have it installed well in advance rather than the day before your presentation. It then launches automatically at every startup or login and updates itself automatically.
It has run flat five minutes before my presentation: what can I do?
Plug it in: one minute of charging gives three hours of use. A full charge takes 60 minutes and then lasts up to 3 months, on an 85 mAh lithium-polymer battery — in practice, you only recharge it between two rounds of presentations. An LED keeps you informed at all times of both the battery status and the connection status.
How is it recharged, and is the cable included?
Via a USB-C port, with the USB-A to USB-C cable included in the box. Note that this cable is only 140 mm long: very handy to store with the remote, much less so for charging it far from the computer, where a longer USB-C cable will quickly become essential.
Can it be used without the USB receiver, on a laptop with no USB-A port?
Yes, two connections are available: the proprietary 2.4 GHz USB-A receiver, plug-and-play, or Bluetooth Low Energy directly from the computer. On a recent laptop with only USB-C ports, the Bluetooth connection saves you adding an adapter; the Logitech software is still required in both cases for the advanced features.
Does it work on a Mac, and from an iPad or an Android tablet?
It is designed for Windows 7 or later and macOS 10.10 or later, the two systems for which it is optimised. On iOS and Android, it provides basic navigation between slides.
Which presentation software is it compatible with?
PowerPoint (2003 and later), Keynote, Google Slides, Prezi and Adobe PDF: so you can present a simple PDF without converting your document first. The accompanying software is available in French among fourteen languages, with a getting-started tutorial.
How can I tell my speaking time is up without looking at the screen?
It has a timer with vibration feedback: it vibrates discreetly in your hand at the intervals set in the Logitech Presentation software. The feedback is purely tactile, so invisible to your audience, and the same haptic motor signals the battery status as well as the moment you move beyond the 30-metre range.
Only three buttons: can you click on a video or a link remotely?
Yes. The three buttons handle next, back and the on-screen cursor; thanks to the accelerometer and gyroscope, you move the pointer with a flick of the wrist and click just like with a mouse to start a video or open a link. The action of each button and the cursor speed can be customised in the software.
Is it robust, and up to what distance does it work?
Its body is made of anodised aluminium, it is tested to withstand a 1-metre drop and its buttons are rated for 1 million clicks. The wireless range reaches 30 metres: enough to move around a large room without losing the connection, with 49.2 g in the hand for 131.3 × 28.1 × 12.1 mm, the size of a large pen.
What if I lose the USB receiver or the charging cable?
These are precisely the two spare parts available: the receiver and the charging cable can be replaced separately, without buying the remote again. The receiver is tiny — 40.4 × 17.2 × 6.8 mm and 3.3 g — which makes it both the easiest part to misplace and the simplest to replace.
Is the Logitech Spotlight remote new and under warranty?
Yes: a new and genuine product, supplied with its invoice, which serves as the 1-year warranty. The model is CE, GS, FCC, VCCI, C-Tick and RoHS certified. Full specifications are in the Logitech datasheet (PDF).
