This bundle pairs the Scarlett 2i2 interface and its two preamps with the CM25 MkIII condenser microphone and the SH-450 closed-back headphones. You start with the supplied mic; the day a second voice or a second instrument arrives, the input is already there.

One mic connected, a second one ready
The CM25 MkIII connects to one of the two XLRs on the rear panel with the supplied three-metre cable. The second XLR stays free for another mic: a vocal duet, a two-person podcast, an acoustic guitar recorded with two mics. On the front, two jacks take guitar, bass or keyboard; a plugged-in jack takes the place of its channel's XLR. Note that the 48V button powers both XLR inputs at once.

With the mic connected and 48V on, one press of Auto is enough: you sing for ten seconds as you would for the take, and the interface sets the CM25 MkIII's gain taking its own noise floor into account. Clip Safe then watches every passage and pulls back the gain before clipping. The microphone, an electret condenser with a 20 mm capsule and a cardioid pattern, covers 30 Hz to 18 kHz and suits the voice as well as acoustic instruments.
Closed-back headphones for recording, and for mixing
The SH-450 surround the ear and cut out room noise. They plug into the interface's headphone output through their 6.35 mm screw-on adapter, with a cable of about three metres. The 2i2's Direct button sends the inputs to these headphones without going through the computer, so without delay: in mono, both inputs sit in the centre, for a voice and a guitar; in stereo, input 1 goes left and input 2 right, for a pair of mics or a synth.

The pop filter goes on the mic for vocals, and the cardboard insert of the packaging serves as a desktop stand until you get a standard stand, onto which the 5/8" clip mounts with its 3/8" adapter. Easy Start guides the installation of Ableton Live Lite, Pro Tools Intro+ or Cubase LE, and the Hitmaker Expansion bundle adds tools to touch up a voice, simulate a guitar amp, program drums and play virtual keyboards.

Hearing yourself twice, with a slight phasing effect? Direct monitoring is on and the software is also sending the sound back: mute monitoring on the track being recorded in the software, or turn Direct off.

Can I add a second microphone to the 2i2 Studio bundle?
Yes, the interface has two preamps and two XLR inputs: the CM25 MkIII on one, a second mic on the other, each on its own track. The 48V button powers both inputs together. The two front jacks also take a guitar or a keyboard, a plugged-in jack taking the place of its channel's XLR.
How does Auto Gain set the level of the supplied microphone?
With the mic connected and 48V on, press Auto then sing as you would for the take for 10 seconds. The interface chooses the gain taking the preamp's noise floor into account: green halo if it worked, red if not. Clip Safe then takes over and lowers the gain if a passage gets too loud.
Does the CM25 MkIII microphone need phantom power?
Yes, 48 V, which the interface supplies: it is an electret condenser mic that draws 3 mA. Before connecting it, set the gain to minimum and turn 48V off; switch 48V on once the XLR cable is in place. Sensitivity of -36 dB, response from 30 Hz to 18 kHz, cardioid pattern.
Are the SH-450 headphones suitable for recording?
Yes, they are closed-back over-ear headphones: they block outside noise so you stay focused on the take. 32 ohms, response from 15 Hz to 30 kHz, cable of about 3 m, 3.5 mm jack with a 6.35 mm screw-on adapter for the interface's headphone output.
Does the 2i2 Studio bundle include a mic stand?
Yes, a cardboard desktop stand formed by the inner packing of the box, to set the mic down and record right away. The CM25 MkIII has a 5/8" clip and a 3/8" threaded adapter, ready for a standard mic stand the day your setup grows.
Which software comes with the 2i2 Studio bundle?

2i2 Studio bundle or Solo Studio bundle: what is the difference?
The microphone, headphones and cable are identical; the interface changes. The 2i2 has two preamps instead of one, 69 dB of gain instead of 57, Auto Gain and Clip Safe. It is the one to choose as soon as you record two mics together or want to leave levels to the interface.
