The FreePlay LIVE fits a 2-way speaker, a small digital mixer and a lithium-ion battery into a 4 kg cabinet. Plug in a microphone and a guitar, start the music from your phone, and play for up to 15 hours away from the mains.

Voice and instrument, each on its own channel
On the rear, two combo sockets take either a microphone on XLR or a source on a 6.35 mm jack: keyboard, player, mixer output. Plugged in with a mono jack, a guitar with pickups goes straight in, without a DI box. A 3.5 mm mini-jack input and Bluetooth add the backing music, and the monitor output sends the mix, in mono, to another powered speaker or a mixer.

You select channel 1, channel 2 or the Bluetooth source, then set its level with the plus and minus buttons; after five seconds without action, they return to the master volume. The six-LED meter follows the levels and shows the battery charge at power-on. Two EQ modes change the character of the sound: Music lifts the lows and highs for playback, Live lightens the bottom end and clarifies voices and instruments. The RVB button adds a reverb shared by both channels.

The free FreePlay Connect app, on iOS and Android, controls the speaker over Bluetooth: levels, 3-band EQ for each channel, reverb settings. Two actions stay on the speaker: switching it on and pairing a new device. You can therefore fine-tune the sound from the room, where the audience hears it.
Two speakers, in stereo or in two rooms
The FreePlay LIVE links wirelessly to a second FreePlay Series speaker, not necessarily the same model. The two play as a stereo pair in the same place, or each on its own to cover a terrace and a room. The link is started from the speaker connected to the phone.
At ear level
Under the cabinet, a socket takes the supplied adapter, which screws onto a standard microphone stand: the speaker rises above the heads, facing the audience. On a table or on the floor it stands as it is, and its recessed handle carries it in one hand. The moulded cabinet, its coated metal grille and its reinforced internal structure are built for the stage.
For a guitar, use a mono jack cable (TS): the input then switches to high impedance, 400 kΩ, suited to guitar pickups. With a stereo jack (TRS), it behaves as a balanced line input.

What is the battery life of the FreePlay LIVE?
Up to 15 hours of continuous operation, thanks to the built-in 2,600 mAh (37.44 Wh) lithium-ion battery. This time drops as the volume goes up and depends on the music played. At power-on, the top-panel meter shows the charge for ten seconds, and pressing buttons 1 and 2 together brings it back at any time.
Can you plug in a microphone and a guitar at the same time?
Yes. Each of the two combo inputs takes a microphone on XLR or a source on a 6.35 mm jack; on a TS jack, its 400 kΩ impedance accepts a guitar with pickups without a DI box. Each channel has its own level and 3-band EQ, and a phone can be added over Bluetooth or on the 3.5 mm mini-jack input.
How powerful is the FreePlay LIVE?
75 W RMS, and 150 W peak: Mackie publishes both values for this model. The sound comes from a 6-inch woofer and two 1-inch tweeters, up to 115 dB SPL peak, with a response from 60 Hz to 20 kHz at −10 dB. Mackie intends it for solo artists, duos, presenters and music listening.
Can the FreePlay LIVE be mounted on a stand?
Yes, on a standard microphone stand: the supplied adapter fits into the socket under the speaker, which then sits above the audience. It can also stand directly on a table, and its built-in handle lets you carry it with one hand, at 4.0 kg.
Does it also work plugged into the mains?
Yes. It runs on mains power with the supplied external power block (100 to 240 V in, 19 V out) or on its battery. Mackie asks you to use only this original power block. The on/off switch is on the rear, next to the inputs.
Can two FreePlay speakers be linked wirelessly?
Yes, with a second FreePlay Series speaker, not necessarily a LIVE: as a stereo pair in the same place, or in zone mode to cover another room. The link is started from the speaker connected over Bluetooth. The 6.35 mm jack monitor output also sends the mix to another powered speaker by cable.
What does the FreePlay Connect app do?
It brings the speaker controls to an iOS or Android phone: levels, 3-band EQ for each channel, reverb, Music and Live modes, linking two speakers. Two actions stay on the speaker itself: switching it on and pairing a device over Bluetooth.
What is in the FreePlay LIVE box?
