The PM-100 is a personal monitor designed for Roland V-Drums electronic drums: an 80 W amp, a 25 cm woofer and a tweeter in a cabinet angled towards the drummer, with one input for the module and another for music.

Aimed at the seated drummer
The front panel is angled to direct the sound towards the drummer sitting behind the kit. The two-way system pairs a 25 cm woofer for the lows with a 5 cm tweeter for the highs, and a global two-knob EQ, BASS and TREBLE, adjusts the sound to the room. The speaker reproduces the sound in mono, even when the module sends a stereo signal.
Drums and music, each with its own volume
On the left of the panel, the V-Drums input takes the 6.35 mm jack output of the drum module. Next to it, two line inputs, on a 6.35 mm jack and a 3.5 mm mini jack, take a phone, an audio player or another electronic instrument, and can be used at the same time. Two separate volume knobs balance the backing track against the kit, without touching the module settings.

Roland set the input sensitivity fairly high for sound modules that output a weak signal. With a high-output module, such as those of the TD series, the sound can distort if the volume is pushed too far: it is then best to raise it gradually. The input accepts the jack output of any drum sound module, V-Drums or not.

Does the PM-100 accept a drum module from another brand?
Yes. The V-Drums INPUT, a stereo 6.35 mm jack, takes the output of any drum sound module; Roland designed and tuned it for its V-Drums. Its sensitivity is high so that it also suits modules with a low output level.
Can you play along with a track from a phone?
Yes. The LINE INPUT inputs, on a 6.35 mm jack and a 3.5 mm mini jack, take an audio player, a phone or an electronic instrument, and can be used at the same time. The LINE VOLUME knob sets the music independently of the drum volume.
Does the PM-100 play in stereo?
No. Its inputs accept stereo jacks and mono or stereo sources, but the speaker reproduces the sound in mono. For stereo monitoring of the drums, you need two monitors or headphones connected to the module.
Can you connect the PM-100 to a PA system or a recorder?
No. The XLR DIRECT OUT outputs are reserved for the PM-200; the PM-100 only has its mains socket on the rear. To amplify or record, start from the outputs of the drum module.
Why does the sound distort with some drum modules?
The PM-100 input is set fairly high for modules with a low output level. With a high-level module, such as those of the TD series, the sound can distort if the volume is turned up too far: lower the module's output volume or the V-Drums VOLUME knob.
How much space does the PM-100 need?
It is 388 mm wide, 407 mm deep and 354 mm high, for 13.5 kg. Roland recommends leaving at least 20 cm free in front and on the sides for ventilation. The full-width handle is used to carry it and move it across the floor.
