How many of the eight outlets stay powered during a power cut?
Six out of eight. The other two French outlets are surge-protected but switch off along with the mains. Six battery-backed outlets is generous for an 850 VA: keep the last two for the printer or a charger.
How long does the BE850G2-FR run on battery?
9 minutes at 50% load, i.e. 260 W, and 5 minutes at 70%, i.e. 364 W. Switchover takes 6 milliseconds typically, 10 at most: a computer does not notice it.
Can you charge a phone directly from the UPS?
Yes, two charging ports are built into the unit, one USB Type-A and one USB Type-C. They charge a phone or a tablet without taking up one of the eight mains outlets.
How long does it take to recharge the battery?
16 hours for a full recharge — that is long, and worth knowing: after a lengthy power cut, allow a good night before you get the full runtime back. The replacement battery has the reference RBC17.
Does the UPS protect the telephone line and the network?
Yes, protection covers the data lines — RJ45 telephone and RJ45 Ethernet network — in addition to the power outlets. The mains surge protector, for its part, absorbs 310 joules.
Does this UPS correct voltage fluctuations?
No, it has no AVR regulator: it is an off-line model that passes mains power through as it is and only switches to battery during a power cut or when the voltage goes out of range. The output waveform is then an approximated sine wave.
What does the UPS show during a power cut?
An illuminated display distinguishes four states: normal operation, battery mode, battery to be replaced and overload. Three audible alarms back them up — switch to battery, low battery and overload.
How does the BE850G2-FR connect, and how much space does it take up?
Through a 1.80 m input cord rated at 6 A maximum. The unit measures 130 × 365 × 120 mm, weighs 4.5 kg and runs at 45 dBA — better to put it on the floor than next to the monitor.
How much load can you really put on this 850 VA?
520 W. It is this wattage that you need to compare with your equipment: a desktop PC, a monitor, an internet box and their accessories fit within it. Beyond that, the UPS sounds its overload alarm continuously.
Is the APC Back-UPS BE850G2-FR new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document, for 2 years. It operates between 0 and 40 °C, and its battery is rated for 2 to 5 years of service. The datasheet covers the rest.
