What devices can I connect to this 500 VA / 300 W UPS?
300 W of usable power for 500 VA: enough to back up a light computer setup — a desktop computer, an internet box or a camera. Add up the actual consumption of your devices and keep a margin below the 300 W: beyond that, a continuous alarm signals the overload. The internal battery is a 12 V / 4.5 Ah unit.
Are all four outlets backed up by the battery?
Yes, all four Schuko CEE 7 outputs are powered by the battery. They are Schuko outlets: your devices plug in directly, without an adapter. The output is 230 V, and the input cord, with a Schuko CEE 7/7P plug, is 1.50 m long.
Can the runtime be extended with an external battery pack?
No. Runtime is limited to the 12 V / 4.5 Ah internal battery: the BV500I-GR has no slot for an additional battery and does not accept a runtime extension module.
How long does the BV500I-GR's battery last, and how long does it take to recharge?
A 12 V / 4.5 Ah sealed lead-acid (VRLA) battery, rated for 3 to 5 years. After an extended power cut, allow 8 hours of recharging to restore the full reserve.
Can the UPS be connected to the PC so that it shuts it down automatically during a power cut?
No: the BV500I-GR is not USB-compatible and provides no automatic computer shutdown. Alerts are local only — a mains/battery indicator light and distinct audible alarms (switch to battery, battery at minimum, continuous overload). It is up to you to save your work and shut down while the reserve lasts.
Does the APC BV500I-GR deliver a pure sine wave on battery?
No: the output waveform is a stepped approximation to a sine wave, not a pure sine wave. Check this if you need to power equipment that explicitly requires a pure sine wave.
Does it correct voltage fluctuations, or does it only work during power cuts?
Both. This line-interactive model with automatic voltage regulation (AVR) accepts an input of 170 to 280 V and delivers a stable 230 V output, and it switches to battery as soon as the power cuts out. The transfer takes 6 ms on average, 10 ms at most. Accepted input frequency: 50/60 Hz ±5 Hz, with automatic detection.
What surge protection does it offer, and does it cover the telephone line or the network cable?
Surge protection is rated at 156 joules. It applies to the Schuko CEE 7 mains sockets — 4 outputs, 1 input — and therefore to the devices you plug into them.
Can it be mounted in a 19-inch rack, and under what conditions should it be installed?
No, it is not rack-mountable: it is a compact black desktop unit, 161 × 305 × 93 mm and 3.9 kg, with no required mounting orientation. It operates from 0 to 40 °C, at up to 90% humidity, with an IP20 protection rating, and can be stored from -20 to 50 °C. At 40 dBA, it stays unobtrusive in the office as well as at home.
