Can the Epson EcoTank L3256 be used without a computer?
Yes, thanks to Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct. The Epson Smart Panel app lets you set up the machine, print documents and photos, and troubleshoot it from a phone or tablet. Wi-Fi Direct even connects it without going through your internet router.
How many pages can the ink supplied with the L3256 print?
8,100 black pages and 6,500 colour pages, or up to three years of printing for a household. The box contains five 65 ml bottles: two black and three colour, which explains the higher stated yield in monochrome.
What is the real print speed of the Epson L3256?
10 pages/min in black and 5 in colour according to ISO/IEC 24734, which measures a complete job; 33 and 15 pages/min at peak on plain paper. Go by the ISO figure: it is the one that matches what you will see in everyday use.
What is the difference between the Epson L3256 and the L3210?
Three things. The L3256 adds Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct, whereas the L3210 is limited to USB; its scanner goes up to 1,200 x 2,400 dpi compared with 600 x 1,200; and its casing is white. Ink, speed, paper tray and yield are identical.
Is the USB cable supplied with the Epson EcoTank L3256?
No, only the power cable is in the box. That is not a problem here: the printer is set up over Wi-Fi. A USB cable is still useful for initial setup or for a computer without a wireless network.
Does the Epson L3256 do automatic duplex printing?
No, duplex printing is manual: you have to turn the stack over yourself between the two passes. On a few pages it is painless; for a thesis or a long report, you are better off choosing a model with automatic duplexing.
How many sheets does the L3256 paper tray take?
100 sheets of input, through the rear tray, and 30 sheets of output. The tray accepts 64 to 300 g/m², i.e. from plain paper up to card stock, and 20 sheets of photo paper.
How good is the Epson EcoTank L3256 scanner?
A flatbed CIS scanner with 1,200 x 2,400 dpi optical resolution, twice the resolution of the L3210. Allow 11 seconds for an A4 page in black, 28 seconds in colour at 200 dpi, with output to PDF, JPEG, PNG or TIFF.
Does the L3256 have a control screen or a document feeder?
Neither: it has no screen and no automatic feeder, with originals placed one at a time on the glass. It also has no fax and no Ethernet port: networking is over Wi-Fi.
Which ink bottles are used to refill the Epson L3256?
Epson 103 bottles, in all four colours. Each has a keyed nozzle that prevents filling the wrong tank, and the tanks are located at the front: the ink level stays visible without taking anything apart.
How much power does the Epson L3256 printer use?
12 W when copying, 4.5 W when idle, 0.7 W in sleep mode and 0.2 W when off. The Micro Piezo head prints without heat, unlike a laser printer, which has to warm up its fuser every time it wakes.
