APC BE850G2-GR Off-Line UPS - 520 W / 850 VA - 8 FR outlets + USB

User-replaceable, the 12 V 9 Ah lead battery can be changed without sending the unit back. Six of the eight Schuko outlets are battery-backed, 9 minutes of runtime at half load, and two USB A and C ports for charging.

Entry-level UPS to protect a computer workstation at home or in a small office: off-line technology and 850 VA / 520 W.

Frequently asked questions about this product

Do the USB ports on the BE850G2-GR work during a power cut?
No: the USB-A and USB-C ports are dedicated to charging mobile devices and are not powered by the battery. During a power cut, a phone plugged into them stops charging — only the six battery-backed outlets stay powered.
How many of the eight outlets stay powered during a power cut?
Six out of eight. Six Schuko CEE 7/3 outlets are battery-backed and surge-protected; the other two are surge-protected only and go off with the mains. Keep them for the printer or a charger.
How long does the BE850G2-GR run on battery?
9 minutes at 50% load, i.e. 260 W, and 5 minutes at 70%, i.e. 364 W. Switchover takes 6 milliseconds at half load, 10 at most: a computer does not notice it.
How long does it take to recharge the battery after a power cut?
16 hours for a full recharge — that is long, and worth knowing: after an extended power cut, the UPS needs a good night to get back its full runtime. Two power cuts in quick succession will find it partially charged.
Can the battery be changed without sending the unit back?
Yes: the 12 V / 9 Ah sealed lead-acid battery is user-replaceable, under reference RBC17. Replacing the battery rather than the UPS significantly extends the life of the unit.
Does this UPS correct voltage fluctuations?
No, it has no AVR regulator: it is an off-line model, which passes mains power through as it is and switches to battery in the event of a power cut or an out-of-range voltage. On a grid that fluctuates constantly, a line-interactive UPS will spare the battery more.
How do you know the UPS has switched to battery or is overloaded?
Through four status indicators — on line, on battery, replace battery, overload — backed up by three distinct audible alarms: switch to battery, low battery and overload.
How is the BE850G2-GR connected, and can it be wall-mounted?
Its Schuko CEE 7/7P input cord is 1.8 m long and handles 6 A maximum. The unit sits on the floor or mounts on the wall, keeping it out of the way unlike a conventional tower UPS.
How much power can you really put on this 850 VA?
520 W, i.e. a power factor of about 0.61. That covers a desktop tower, a monitor, an internet box and their accessories — but always add up the watts before plugging in, and keep some headroom for runtime.
Is the APC BE850G2-GR new and under warranty?
Yes, new equipment, with the invoice serving as the warranty document. It absorbs 310 joules of surge energy, weighs 4.5 kg and runs at 45 dBA: better placed on the floor than next to the monitor. The datasheet covers the rest.
