Frequently asked questions about this product
How many memory slots are free, and how much memory can be installed?
The tower has two DDR5 UDIMM slots supporting dual-channel, of which only one is occupied, by the supplied 8 GB DDR5-4800 module. That leaves one free slot, and the machine accepts up to 64 GB of DDR5-5600.
Can a second drive be added without removing the original SSD?
Yes, the tower accepts up to three storage drives: the supplied M.2 SSD (512 GB, up to 1 TB in this format), a 3.5-inch bay for up to 2 TB and a 2.5-inch bay intended for installation by the customer. Enough to keep the system and your data on separate drives without touching the SSD.
Do you need a screwdriver to open the case?
No. The chassis is secured by a thumbscrew that can be turned by hand, with no tools. Inside, two M.2 slots — one holding the 512 GB SSD, the other the Wi-Fi card — sit alongside the two memory slots and the PCIe connectors.
Is Windows already installed on this computer?
No. It ships with FreeDOS, so without Windows: plan for a licence and for installing the system before putting it into service. In return, you are free to choose the operating system and its version.
Can a dedicated graphics card be installed in this ThinkCentre?
Yes, a full-height PCIe 3.0 x16 slot is available, alongside a PCIe 3.0 x1 slot. Check two dimensions before buying the card: 233.6 mm in length and 117.5 mm in height at most. The power supply delivers 180 W, with 85% efficiency.
Are the keyboard and mouse supplied, and is the keyboard AZERTY?
Yes to both: a French AZERTY Calliope USB keyboard and a black Calliope USB mouse are in the box. Only the monitor is not included, as the machine is sold without one.
How many monitors can be connected at the same time?
Up to three independent monitors. The rear panel brings together an HDMI 2.1 output (up to 4K at 60 Hz), a DisplayPort 1.4a and a VGA port: three generations of displays covered, with no adapter needed for a projector or an older monitor.
What is the front USB-C port for?
For data transfer at 5 Gbps and charging a device at up to 15 W, a phone for example. On the front, it sits alongside four 5 Gbps USB-A ports, one of them always powered, and a combo headphone/microphone jack.
Is there a DVD drive, and how can you read a disc without one?
No, no optical drive is fitted in this configuration. The machine's eight USB-A ports — four on the front, four at the back — let you connect an external drive or burner if the need arises.
Is it noisy in a shared office?
The tower is TÜV Ultra Low Noise certified and managed by ICE 7.0 adaptive cooling, which adjusts fan speed to the load instead of running constantly at the same speed. Two intended benefits: a quieter workstation and a longer life cycle.
What protections are provided for a corporate PC fleet?
Hardware and BIOS: a TCG-certified dTPM 2.0 module, BIOS-based Smart USB protection and the option of disabling the USB and audio ports from the BIOS. Physical: a Kensington slot, a padlock loop and a chassis intrusion sensor.
Is Wi-Fi built in, or do you need to add a USB dongle?
It is built in: an Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 (802.11ax 2x2) card with Bluetooth 5.2, fitted in a dedicated M.2 2230 slot, separate from the SSD's. No USB dongle needed, and an Ethernet RJ-45 port remains available for a wired connection.
Until when will this model be supported by the manufacturer?
Support for reference 12UD00BYFM runs until 15 February 2031, for a machine announced on 21 December 2024: more than six years of visibility, enough to plan the renewal of a business fleet with confidence.
Is this computer new, and how long is the warranty?
It is new and comes with a 3-year warranty: the extension from 1 to 3 years, courier pick-up or carry-in, is already included in the model. Full specifications are in the Lenovo datasheet (PDF).
